I have a B&W G3 (300 Mhz) and a slot loading iMac ((600Mhz) both running 10.3.9. My daughter is looking into buying an iPod Nano which requires USB 2.0 How do I know whether either machine is USB 2.0 compatible ? If not can a USB 2.0 card be installed ?
thanks

Currently you only have USB 1.1. To get USB 2.0, you need to install a USB 2.0 PCI card. However, not all USB PCI cards work in a Mac. Best bet is any card with a NEC PD72101 chipset (xlr8yourmac results recommend the same).Read this for more feedback:

All of these Cards are NEC chipset based

Tom (Texas Mac Man) has given you good advice above.
USB 1.1 (what you already have) should function correctly, if you are willing to live with the connection being a little slow. USB 2.0 is supposed to be completely backward-compatible, but is not nearly as fast.

A minor point of clarification. The USB 2 PCI card can be installed in your B&W only; you are stuck with USB 1.1 on your iMac.
