new versus unplayed podcasts

When syncing an iPod with podcasts, what is the difference between "recent new" and "recent unplayed"?

I have been trying to figure this out for a while as well. Neither option doesn't seem to give me the results that I want; that is, I want to have on my iPhone the most recent episode of selected podcasts that I have not viewed/listened to fully, thus, including some podcasts which I may have started but did not completely listen or watch.

I have been looking into this question myself. I think that new podcasts refer to those that have never been played and unplayed refers to ones that have not been listened to completely. At least that is my understanding. Poor wording if you ask me.

I think bamiller3 is right.
Here is my understanding
New (and unplayed) - never been played
Unplayed (BUT not new)- partially played (won't add play count)
Played (of course not new) - completely played (add play count)
Mark as New will clear play count, thus the podcast becomes New (and unplayed) again.
