Replaced motherboard, now processor upgrades not recognized
Posted: Aug 13, 2007 4:44 PM

Hi, my G4 kept freezing so, after eliminating everything else, I replaced the logic board, with the original OEM Dual 450's the machine boots and behaves normally.
However, when refitting the Powerlogix 1.2Ghz processors the machine will start, i.e fans runs and logicboard LED is on, but the front panel button light stays off and the machine will neither boot nor chime.
I remembered to set the CMU (10 secs) and PRAM, but to no avail, have I forgotten something?
Thanks
Robert

Hi Thomas, thank you for your reply, how does one establish the firmware needed and the firmware installed in my machine? Under "About my Mac" it says the boot ROM version is 3.3.4f1, how do I determine the firmware I need from the version I have?

Solved

Hello! If the machine is a Gigabit one then 4.2.8f1 is the one needed as per THIS page. You have to be booted into OS9 to install any firmware updates. Tom

Thanks Thomas, problem solved.
I had a problem getting it to boot from 9 to X but managed it on fourth go.
Processors now in and recognized.
No freezes, as yet, so I asume it must of been the Motherbaord causing them.
Thanks again.
