A little bit tilted?
Posted: Sep 9, 2007 3:56 PM

I am sensitive to things not being level, like pictures hanging crooked, print on a page not being level, etc.

I really like my new nano, but I detect that the video is not entirely level within the frame. It seems to be tilted down a little on the left. (The black border seems thicker on the bottom right side than it does on the bottom left side). I find it distracting while watching videos.

Does anybody else have this issue with their nano 3g?

Thanks,

Well, I called Apple and went through some tests, etc. They said they would exchange the nano. They are going to send a service to pick it up and then a week or two (!) later I would get an exchange nano back. How annoying!

This make like 10 for 10 though - every Apple product I've every bought has had something wrong with it at first and needed exchange or repair.

Where did you buy your iPod nano? Are you anywhere near an Apple retail store? Since you have a case open with AppleCare Support, they might just exchange the iPod for you. They've done that for me when my wireless Mighty Mouse became defective.

I bought it at one of the big electronics stores here in Tokyo. There are a couple of Apple retail stores here in Tokyo, but they are always so horribly crowded and sort of a nuisance to get to. Anyway, Apple Care here said they had to do it this way.

So I guess I'm stuck...

Nobody else has an LCD component that seems slightly tilted like mine?

I called Apple back again and they are not budging. I am very disappointed at the extremely poor service here and now am sorry I bought this. I wish I could just return it at this point.

I decided to press the case further with Apple. I actually got them to bend! I gave them my credit card number just for security (I've done that with Apple in the U.S. before when simultaneously changing parts, so I think that is reasonable).

They are going to send me out a new one and then when it arrives make arrangements to pick up the old one.

You really have to nag Apple to get service!

Anyway, as long as the new one doesn't have any problems it should all work out. I assume this tilt issue is rare? I haven't seen anybody post about it.

I'm not talking about like a 30 degree tilt or anything dramatic like that. I am talking about just a few degrees. But it's like a painting that is hanging just a bit crooked - it's annoying to look at.

Mine is slightly tilted too, a degree or two counterclockwise, but it doesn't bother me. I was more bothered by the click wheel in the 2G Nano that snapped as I circled around it.

My little brother just got his nano in the mail today and his screen is tilted too. I wonder if he'll notice.

I guess I really shouldn't have read your post. After checking, mine is tilted too! Now that little thing is going to drive me crazy. I bought mine in Tokyo too (at an Apple store) but I'm 2 and half hours away and I don't feel like making that trek. I'll try what you did.

Thanks for the post!

You can call Apple and they might be able to send you a new nano.

After reading this, I wonder how widespread the problem is? It seems that everybody who has posted has the same problem - a couple of degrees of counter-clockwise tilt.

You can immediately detect this by looking at the black border under the LCD part. In our case, the border gets thicker from left to right (because the LCD is tilted down on the left side).

When my new one comes I'll report if it is better or not!

Mines off slightly, but we are talking at most 1/4 a centimeter. I had to pull out a ruler to try to see if it was really off or not. If I have to pull out a ruler and put on reading glasses to see it I guess its close enough <g>
