Does xCode support JDK 1.6??? I can't seem to find a download anywhere... I am trying to compile a program for class and I am using the comparable interface and I get an error that says "Generics are not supported in -source 1.3".

This is actually two questions in one 
1) You can download Java 1.6 from the Apple Developer Connection site. It's called Java SE 6.0 Release 1 Developer Preview 6. You need to sign up for a free developer account here: connect.apple.com
2) For some incomprehensible reason, Xcode defaults to Java 1.3. You need to switch it in your project by clicking on Project > Edit active target, then select Settings > Simple View > Java Compiler Settings. Set Target Vm and Source Version to the version of your choice.

Bob please what section do I have to look in to download java 1.6? I only have java 5 in the "java" section of downloads.

It seems that Apple has pulled JDK 1.6 from their website.

So does anybody know what this means for the future of 6 on the Mac?
Doesn't seem very encouraging that they have basically removed all references
that were previously there.

At 8 hours of Leopard, thank you very much. If the new version of JDK is officially available, I expect that it works on Tiger, too. Why I didn't find this before. Thank you.

Well, I remember that JDK 1.5 wasn't released until after Tiger had come out. It was available as an update via "Software Update" after Tiger was released. Perhaps they're going to do the same thing here.

The problem I have is that Apple promised to provide better support for Java. Just a year ago they said they were committed to keeping a better pace with the releases. When they came out with a preview version of Java 6 I was elated since Java 1.6 wasn't out yet. But nothing out of them since then. Also the preview version has some major bugs. It has really bad painting issues. I wish Apple would just let Java on the Mac go open source as well, but they are so freakin' anal I don't know if it will ever happen. Even Gosling has given up on the Mac... Unfortunately Java developers are 2nd class citizens as far as Apple is concerned. I actually purchased Leopard in anticipation of getting Java 6 with it. I do believe I have made my last purchase from Apple. This is one fan boy who is getting off of the wagon...

Well, lack of Java 1.6 support is a pretty sad reason to cut off your nose to spite your face. Where are you gonna go? Windows? Linux? I'd rather stay with Mac OS X and Java 1.5 than switch to that abomination called Windows and I just don't have the time or patience to spend the next six months tweaking Linux to get it to run only half as well as Leopard.
But all of this is really just people with a lot of impatience. Java 1.6 has only been officially released since this summer. And we don't know why they've delayed the release. Just like we don't know why they suddenly yanked Network support with Time Machine. All we can do is speculate. Maybe they ran into problems that caused it's delay.
But I am pretty sure that Apple wouldn't spend the time and money that they did developing the R6 and R7 builds of Java 1.6 only to abandon it.
