No Inventory of 85W Power Supplies Anywhere! Apple is out of stock!
Posted: Sep 26, 2007 2:41 PM

I get different answers fromeveryone I talk to, but I am in a deperate situation. I left my 85W Power Adapter while traveling and have discovered that there are none to be found anywhere! Apple says 4-6 weeks, Macwarehouse is out,ALL Apple stores are out. I bought a used one on Ebay and it does not work (sending back).

Does Apple really not have power for their laptops? This seems really unbelievable. Just spoke with "My Apple" and their advice was to wait 3 weeks. I am blown away by this. Does anyone know the truth about what is happening or more importantly WHERE I can get an 85W adapter.

Thanks.

Oh, that's awful! Good luck finding a replacement.

You've explained why the Genius Bar guys were acting so weird a couple nights ago, though. My power adapter's LED kind of randomly goes out, while still delivering power fine. I expected them to just hand me a new one... but instead they wanted to see the computer, and then sort of threatened to take away my new MBP for a week to check it out! (Um... no thanks.)

What a strange thing to run out of.

FYI, you can use a MB power adapter with your machine. It will take longer to charge the battery but at least you'll be able to use it. It won't cause any damage. This has been discussed here ad nauseam.

I am good friends with some retailers who basically are sure there is an "issue" with the current design and are re-designing the adapter. They don't know what it is but I think I do:

The issue? Well it is the one that is plaguing my adapter right now: Those pins don't always spring to the front like they are supposed to. The springs behind the pins, on mine, have weakened and don't push the pins forward anymore.

This is indeed a terrible situation. I am away and my (thankfully) second charger has started playing up badly - I think a break in the cable at its emergence from the tranformer. I went to the UK Apple store and saw that it is a estimated 2-3 weeks for a new one. I cannot imagine what it would be lke if you didn't have a spare. It is good to know that the smaller MacBook unit will charge, albeit more slowly - is this confirmed as safe for machine and in terms of heat generation/fire hazard?

Jigsaw in Nottingham UK have supplies - I have just ordered one. This may help others who are desparate. It would still be good to know that the smaller charger is safe - anyone?
