Printer jobs stopped
Posted: Oct 3, 2007 1:51 PM

Hi,

Always printed fine then "jobs stopped" showed up and ruined everything! With a red exclamation mark he shuts us down. I reset printers, repaired permission, started up from disc to repair HD, checked cables, did the Epson printer test-works fine- and then tried a bootup from the external hd and printing is 100% So went back and used system profiler and checked error logs and here's what showed:

Try Reset Printing System, a menu choice in Printer Setup Utility.

Thank you for the response but I've reset twice with the same result and also tried FixaMacs PRS software too. Maybe an archive/install would work?

Greg,

Here is the response and answer to my problem. Since it will help many other OS X users with the Epson who've posted, I've entered it here:
Please try one of the following to cancel a print job in OS X

Print Center
1) Bring the Print Center to the foreground by selecting it from the DOCK.
2) Double click the printer to open the print queue.
2) Highlight the current print job.
3) Select JOBS from the task bar and select HOLD, then DELETE.

Remove the Paper
1) Remove the paper from the printer.
2) This should result in an error message.
3) Follow the prompts to DELETE the print job.

NOTE: If you select STOP JOB, you will then need to DELETE the print job
from the print queue by highlighting the held job and selecting JOBS then
DELETE.

****

Please follow the instructions below to completely remove and reinstall the
resident Epson driver package for your printer. You can leave the printer
on and connected throughout.

REMOVE FILES

1. Double click on the MAC HARD DRIVE.
2. Double click on the LIBRARY folder.
3. Double click on the PRINTERS folder.
4. Drag the EPSON folder to the trash can.
5. Close any open windows.
6. Double click on the MAC HARD DRIVE.
7. Double click on the LIBRARY folder.
8. Double click on the RECEIPTS folder.
9. Delete any "Epson" receipts.
10. Close all open windows and restart your computer.

REINSTALL THE EPSON DRIVER PACKAGE

1. Insert your Mac OS X 10.4 Install disc. Open CD when it appears on the
desktop.
2. Find and double-click on the Optional Installs.pkg.
3. After the installer opens, choose the following custom install options:
-Check "Printer drivers" and use arrow next to this entry to expand this
category.
-Check "Epson" below the "Printer drivers" heading. (You do not need to
install other manufacturer's packages.)
4. Click "Install" and follow prompts to reinstall the resident Epson
printer driver package. Restart the computer after installation is
complete.

READD THE PRINTER

1. Go into HD > Applications > Utilities and open the Printer Setup
Utility. The "Printer List" window appears.
2. Highlight and delete any existing references to your Epson printer. (If
you want to be thorough and do not have any other printers on the Mac,
choose "Printer Setup Utility" from the top of the screen and "Reset
Printing System". Confirm resetting the system. This clears any existing
printer entries and queues. If you have other printers on the Mac and use
this reset, you will need to readd them later.)
3. Click ADD. Printer Browser window appears. (At this point your Epson
printer must be on and connected.)
4. Highlight the desired Epson printer model and click the MORE PRINTERS
button at the bottom of the window. (Do not change any other fields.)
5. A window now opens which is identical to 10.2. and 10.3, where you can
select EPSON USB (for a USB cable connection) or EPSON FIREWIRE (for a
firewire connection) at the top of the screen. If applicable highlight your
printer's name and select Page Setup "ALL" below. Otherwise click ADD to
return to the Printer List. (If you are unable to see the full description
under "Kind" you may need to expand the Printer Setup Utility window or
extend the "Kind" column to make this visible.)
6. If more than one driver installs for your printer, make that printer
name/layout option you wish to use default in the Printer Setup Utility
before closing it. For example, if you plan to do a borderless print,
ensure the printer name showing "(Sheet feeder - Borderless)" under "Kind"
is set as the default printer here. Then, when you have opened a photo and
are ready to print, go to File > Page Setup and File > Print in the program
you are printing from and ensure that the specific printer/layout option
you want to use is also selected as "Printer" or "Format for".
