No A2DP in Leopard? (stereo bluetooth)
Posted: Oct 16, 2007 10:28 AM

I am looking at all of the features in Leopard, and I don't see this anywhere. Other than rumor/speculation, has anyone received confirmation from apple that this will be supported without 3rd party hacks?

How about support for the zillions of blurtooth phones that can be used as modems. Once again, 3rd party scripts are nice, but I would hope that Apple will support these. I hate to say it, but WinTel machines are more plug and play nowdays than many apple products (please see this apple and include these features!)

A2DP is not supported by the iPhone. As far as it being supported in the future, only Apple knows.

Does any one know when apple is coming out with Advanced Audio (A2DP) or software to update iPhone and resolve this isue. I think it suck to have an iPhone and not be able to have a wireless head-set for music streaming.

Just installed Leopard & the 1st thing I checked is...

Bluetooth profiles supported by Apple Bluetooth software
Apple’s Bluetooth software supports the following profiles on client devices:

Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP): Controls stereo audio headphones.

Audio Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP): Controls the buttons on headphones and other devices.

Dial-Up Networking Profile: Allows a mobile phone to act as a modem and connect to an Internet service provider (ISP) and the Internet.

File Transfer Profile (FTP): Allows a Bluetooth device to send and receive files from another device (on both client and server devices).

Hard Cable Replacement Profile (HCRP): Allows a Bluetooth device to connect and print to a wireless, Bluetooth enabled printer.

Headset Profile: Allows a Bluetooth device to use a wireless, Bluetooth enabled headset to send and receive audio.

Human Input Device (HID) Profile: Allows a Bluetooth device to use a wireless input device, such as a keyboard or mouse.

Object Push Profile: Allows a Bluetooth device to send files to a remote device (on both client and server devices).

Serial Port Profile: Enables incoming and outgoing connections to Bluetooth devices (on both client and server devices).

I had to pair again my headphone for Leopard to see my headset correctly

Yes, it is confirmed that A2DP is working in Leopard.

Can you confirm WHERE you confirmed that? When I run the Bluetooth Setup Assistant in Leopard, I see only choices for mouse, keyboard, mobile phone, printer, headset, and any device. When I tried to pair with 2 different A2DP devices I have, neither one shows up as A2DP/stereo.

Nevermind, it shows up as headset, but once you pair it THEN it show an option for "headphone" as well. Cool.

Hi kids,
So I was having the same issue with my iMuff headphones not coming in stereo with Leopard. So I removed the device, and then paired the headphones again, and they are coming through in stereo. So I can confirm A2DP in Leopard. I just did the "Connect Device" guide, selecting "Headset" and it all came into place.

Sorry, not clear on one part: A2DP works on computers that have Leopard installed and Apple's factory Bluetooth modules I understand–but is anyone implying or inferring that A2DP therefore works with an iPhone and A2DP headsets/phones? I'm sorry, it's just that this is an iPhone forum and I don't want myself or others confused by this. So if you're saying that Leopard's A2DP support is a good hint that iPhones' firmware may be flash-able to include such support as well...well, OK. But regarding the iPhone and A2DP, as several others here have said, it's up to Apple and they'll make their decision based on technical feasibility and profitability. The rest is all just augury by us laymen.
