Calling owners with good 20" Alum iMac screens - which mfg week is yours?

Hi everyone,
Would like to help all of us here to track good screens from which week onwards. This is to help all who want to send their iMacs for repair to know when to send it in.
Apparently there is a case of a good 20" screen from the week of the 39.
Anyone else with a good 20" screen and what is the week of mfg/assembly? You can check this from the first 5 characters of your machine's serial no (including the W)
Thanks!

Great thread.
I would also request people with good screens to post where they bought their iMacs from (i.e. Apple's retail store, Apple's Online store, Amazon ...etc.). In most cases, iMacs with good screens were bought from Apple's online store.
Mine is week 38. By the way, this week is week 42.

Week 38 and you do or do not have a display problem.
I purchased mine over the phone / through the online store and it does have the problem. I suspect it may be related to week production number. Definitely want to see the numbers on screens where people say they have no problems.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies. Mine is week 37 and I have the problem.
So far screens before week 39 all exhibit the fading issues.
Thanks for all the feedback and keep the reports coming in!

Presumably W8701 would be the first week in January this year, thus week 39 would be the week commencing Monday 24 September 2007?

I bought it last Tuesday (16th October) at my local reseller. Considering the model they had in display had a properly working screen as well, I took my chances and bought it.

Mine has uneven illumination and it is week 41. This is a replacement from my first iMac that had the same issue. I am a designer so this poses a bit of a problem. Rather than go return this I think will just wait it out for fix and send it in for repair. The speakers are pretty amazing for the size.

Mine is week 40, and has the problems. What I first noticed was the colour when I sat down was whie, but as I stood in front preparing to sit down I saw a blue colour.
I think I am currently inclined to keep the machine, but I might use my old 19" Samsung screen. I actually find the dimensions of the 20" not as good as the 19", it's too wide so that the right side of the screen is too far away, and too short so you can't get enough of a page on the screen..
It's a relief to know it is a general problem, I wasn't looking forward to taking the Mac in for service as I don't have a car.

Just a trivial point. the PowerBook G4 in the model list at the end was, of course, my old machine

It's not that simple. Week 31, no issues. Purchased at Apple retail store.

My iMac is week 30 and it has the gradient problem. It is not a problem for me in normal everyday use. That is not what I'm upset about. I think that problem is minor compared to the fact that it has the cheeper screen, 6 bit TN instead of 8 bit. I waited 5 years to buy a new iMac and although I am Ok with it, I am disappointed that the screen is not as high a quality as the previous iMacs. Of course I had no idea until after I purchased it and started reading about it here. I've read a lot on the forum and my question is...is the screen really as bad as some say or is it an exaggeration. I bought my iMac 2 days after they came out so I am not going to return it. I'd just like to hear from someone about the quality of the screen.

Not that this is any kind of remedy, but if you check out your display at this website:
http://www.webdoodles.org/pages/screentest.htm
You will see that your TN panel performs as if it was an 8-bit.
Of course 12-bit will be the rage in a year or two, but the human eye might not even notice the difference.
Being critical is fine and being practical is fine too
