Random Green Flashes on Screen

Before anybody suggests it, no I haven't been drinking or taking drugs....
I'm curious if anybody else has noticed a random green flash (like the flash that photobooth provides only green) from time to time when closing applications or performing other similar tasks. I can't decide whether it's some kooky "feature" or whether there are compatability problems with my ATI X800 graphics card, or whether my display has decided to give up.
Anyone?

What kind of display are you using? If it´s a LCD then it´s probably not a sign that it´s ready to give up.

Here too, but I don't think it's random. It's happening when I quit programs or close settings windows. Leopard is clean installed on a freshly formatted HD, G5 2x2,7 with Apple 30" display.

That's interesting... mine is a 30" display too. I wonder if that's the issue?

I also have a 30" and get these green flashes, but these are not the only graphic errors I have. I also have problems when entering time maching (1 third of the screen seems to be slower) and i sometimes get small green flashes behind the dock.
Also my menu bar is not transparent.
When I switch my resolution to a lower one, the problem is gone.
I have a radeon 9650.

Maybe with the big screens, there isn't enough memory reserved for video display. Maybe you have about 20 MB mem reserved, but you need like 30?

so this seems to be a driver problem, is there a way to fix this, or do we have to wait for 10.5.1 and hope?
does the memory idea explain all the graphic glitches? is there anyone with a 30" and ati card who does not have those problems?

I can confirm I have the same issue on my machine with an X800XT and 30" display. I seems like a driver issue because the problem occurs only in 10.5. I also tried a clean install on another hard drive yet the problem persists.

I have exactly the same problems regarding graphics in Leopard. Was on the phone with support for 3 hours trying to resolve the problem but no luck. Running a Mac Pro quad core 3ghz, radeon x1900xt with the Oct 16 firmware, and two dell 24 inch monitors at 1920x1200. System wide graphics don't render correctly. I mostly see horizontal lines that span across program windows, not screen wide. Also, graphics in the top left of windows are sometimes incorrectly drawn, with incorrect gradients and small lines cutting through the traffic light circles. Screen captures include the errors, so a hardware problem with the displays/cables isn't likely. Tiger ran perfectly on this system.
Originally clean installed Leopard and now doing it again. Will post if any improvement seen. I took photographs of each recurrence of the problem.

The more and more I read, the more I think that the graphics drivers in 10.5 are buggy. People with a lot of different graphics chipsets are getting display corruption, choppy animation, etc.
I think that patience is the best answer here -- wait for 10.5.1 to show up and a lot of this tiny stuff will get fixed.

Well, I haven't had green flashes. I'm seeing the display turn upside down for about a second when I quit programs. It doesn't happen every time I quit, but it only happens when quitting a program. I'm running a 24" NEC at 1920x1200 with a wimpy GPU (my 1st gen mini only has 32MB of VRAM), but I had no problems of this sort with this same setup while using 10.4.

same similar problem. i noticed it first because i have my desktop pic change randomly every minute and the transition gives a strobing effect like an old crt monitor. I had noticed this in earlier versions of OSX and I had found that the ATI driver was corrupted or shut off. re-installing fixed it back then, but re-installing it on leopard does not do anything. I figured its probably just a open Gl thing because I noticed that running programs like Maya seems to have a slower frame rate post leopard upgrade. Im using a ATI 9800pro special edition mac GPU with a 20" cinema and a 22" view sonic

I got this choppy gurbish image when I'm running Podcast in Front Row. When I pressed ESC key and return to desktop....its gone. I guess there is a bug in the Graphics Engine.

Ditto on the non-transparent menu bar and green flashes when maximizing programs. Interesting tidbit though, if I put the dock on the side, I -don't- get the green flashes. Haven't tried time machine yet.
