jpegs from adobe lightroom causing finder, iphoto, mail, preview, crashes!

This post issue started in the DOCK and FINDER catagory but it is more wide spread so I've started a thread in here as well.
Here's the problem...
It seems certain jpegs and other image files that had metadata added in Adobe's Lightroom running on TIGER will now crash apps like PREVIEW, iPHOTO, MAIL, and even the FINDER if you try and get info on the pic (which by the way doesn't support an icon of the picture in any finder view).
Just got off the phone with Apple about this and they say it's NOT a known issue yet and suggested that I downgrade to TIGER. What a headache!!!! They're still jpegs!!!

Anyone who is suffering from this issue should call apple tech support, my complaint is on file. The more noise made the faster this will be corrected!

Anyone else got the feeling that Apple and Adobe are going to keep passing the buck on this one?

Also for the record. I haven't installed LIGHTROOM since upgrading. The problem is happening with jpegs that have had meta data from LIGHTROOM saved to the original file back in TIGER! The reason why this is really annoying is because I'm following the advice of APPLE and ADOBE and not installing LIGHTROOM, but even the stand alone jpegs are causing a problem!!!!!

Wow, this is like a bad dream where you think you're the last one on earth but then you find out your not....but things are just as crappy when you thought you were alone.
Again I'll say it, 2 and a half years and jpegs crash the finder and preview. Hello Steve and/or developers digital life, digital photos and all that, remember???

Lightroom's definitely buggy for me under Leopard, but unlike a lot of people I can load the Print module (which is ironic considering I never print), and my Lightroom-generated JPEGs do not crash the Finder or any of my apps. I wonder if this could be a color profile issue. I use sRGB always. You?

Your colour space theory is interesting. My pics are profiled with PRO PHOTO.
BUT to be clear, have you written any info to your jpegs from lightroom? keywords and metadata to be specific, and be aware just by writing metadata in lightroom doesn't mean the meta actually went to the original jpeg files. You actually have to save meta out to the original file. If you haven't done that that's why you're probably okay.

I enter keywords in Lightroom, export to JPEG, and then import the JPEGs into iPhoto where I do my actual organizing (not too keen on the Lightroom GUI or the way the modules are modal, but love the Camera Raw conversions, so. . . ). And these same JPEGs, if navigated to via the Finder prior to import into iPhoto, don't crash the Finder or Preview (and Preview lists the keywords). So the color profile is looking more and more suspect to me.

k 1st off how do you control the colour space in Lightroom when importing pics? I found the colour space settings in the Lightroom preferences for the external editor, but not for Lightroom. I thought Lightrooms colour space was pro photo and that's it.
Also I noticed you said you save the metadata than export a jpg. This may be why your not encountering what we are. If I export problem jpgs from lightroom lightroom they open no problem in the finder, mail & preview. BUT if I actually go and try o view the original master file in the finder, iphoto, or preview than I run into problems.

Yeah, internally Lightroom uses Pro Photo and you can't change it. When Lightroom imports my Canon raw files I let it convert them to dng, and if I then view these dngs in the Finder, they come up and don't cause a crash. Nor do JPEGs exported from Lightroom. So I guess maybe that's the disparity there. Are you importing JPEGs rather than raw files? If so, I wonder why Lightroom would tag the original JPEGs with a Pro Photo profile before exporting them. Seems kinda sketchy to me. Or am I way off the mark here and not really understanding the problem. Wouldn't be the first time.
At any rate I can view exported JPEGs or Lightroom-converted dng files in the Lightroom library and not crash either the Finder or Preview. Haven't tried Mail.

From the ADOBE LIGHTROOM disscussion boards...
Ian Lyons - 8:29am Nov 4, 07 PST (#6 of 7)
They cause finder to relaunch as soon as it tries to make a thumbnail of one. And Preview just doesn't open them.
If you're having problems with Leopard not being able to render a thumbnail, previews in CoverFlow, etc etc etc or worse then try the following:
1. Select the image in Bridge or open it into Photoshop
2. Select "File Info" command from the File menu
3. Select the Advanced panel
4. Check for the presence of the metadata nameset http://ns.adobe.com/camera-raw-saved-settings/1.0/ (this is NOT a hypelink, so so don't click it -see attached screenshot)
5. If above is present it's likely the cause of the problem.
What do you do next?
You can hope that Apple changes Finder/CoverFlow so that it can handle this particular metadata nameset in JPEG, TIFF and PSD files. (Don't hold your breath)
Alternatively, you can delete the nameset using the Delete button in File Info (see attached screenshot). The nameset is used to store the Lightroom "Snapshot" data, so deleting it from non Raw files shouldn't lose you anything.
Worse* = Finder is crashing not relaunching!

deleting this didn't correct the issue for me but if I delete all of the text in this advanced menu the jpg is corrected and works in LEOPARD. I'll have to delete them one at a time to figure out which particular line of text is causing the issue. I'll post back soon.
Thanks for the tip.

Hello out there,
Just for the record: Me too, I am having this problem. For me, it is incomprehensible why such a serious bug / incompatibility was not discovered during the Leopard's beta phase. How does Apple choose their beta testers, that there was no Lighroom user among them ?!?
At least, when you disable all kinds of preview in the Finder, you can drag the JPEGs around and open them with various Adobe programs
