Vista X32 sees only 2 GB RAM

Just added 2 gig RAM to my brand new Mac Pro giving it a total of 3 gig. OS X Leopard recignizes the RAM and runs fine. I have Vista Business X32 installed on a separate hard drive - BootCamp. It only recognizes 2 gig. I thought X32 Vista could handle 3 gig. Can someone help me understand why Vista won't see all 3 gig?

Thanks, Hatter. Yes, I was aware from other threads that my Vista install would only see 3GB if I had installed more than 3GB in my Mac Pro. It was a surprise to me that Vista is only seeing 2 GB. Must be some memory mapping issue specific to the Mac Pro.
Actually I had done a test install with XP Pro X64. It recognizes all the memory, but I get yellow exclamation marks in Windows' device manager indicating some driver issues.
Summary: if I want to stick with Apple-supported drivers, Vista X32 will only recognize 2GB regardless of how much RAM is installed. Is this correct?

It is not a mapping issue. It is "BIOS" that Apple or BootCamp uses or creates. Which is why I try to steer people away from even using BC and just do a native install of Vista - just to see.
Updates from the net, from MS, and maybe from Apple should help.
Why do you want "Apple supported drivers"? do you think they are better?
Note: I think there is ONE "!" and that is for USB or something I can't figure - and nothing I need. Or am missing.
Having 2GB sure doesn't seem like it is "supported" to me.

What is meant by "native install of Vista"? I ran the BootCamp utility from Leopard & to the point where it asked for the Vista install disk. I inserted the disk & rebooted. Then I had Vista format the volume & go from there. Then I installed Apple's drivers. Is there a different procedure?
Apple drivers? When I tried XP Pro X64, there was no driver for Apple 5000 Series Chipset DMA and Apple SMBus 1.0 Host Controller. Plus there were "!" for the PCI Express ports. It wasn't clear to me that Vista X64 would recognize the Apple Chipset DMA and Apple SMBus without Apple drivers. And it wasn't clear to me if there are any ramifications (performance or therwise) or not from running without the drivers.
It sounds like Vista X64 is running quite well for you. I may give XP Pro X64 another shot.

I should have said "unassisted" install.
Meaning pop in Vista, format a drive (reboot once for the partition to show as available though) and install.
After numerous updates from Microsoft and what I had on hand, at the end, I used BC 1.3 for one set of drivers, then later ran BC 1.4 set of drivers.
It keeps changing every 3 months. There are new things showing up and it seems MS is doing something to provide support and drivers. There are two 'warnings' about FBDIMM ABM or something and to "see Apple."
I just don't use BootCamp - and I think it now under Leo is writing something to the destination partition, which may or may not be causing problems I keep reading about.
For 6 months I didn't have sound drivers. I've never had an Apple Startup manager control panel (it is installed wrong place or incorrect). There was also an issue in the past if switching between OS X and Vista with time synch w/o BC 1.3+ drivers (I no longer use OS X for now).
It has very good "Finder" and copying files between drives and it seems good at handling my catalog and library of 30-40K photos. Also, I have a huge folder of thousands of documents that get to 500 pages and working in OpenOffice 2.3 is faster and easier than anything else I've used and to do so properly.
It began because RC1 was $5 DVD. My ISP wanted to do a network test on Windows. And my Dad needs a new Windows PC and wanted to just learn something myself. I've spent 40 yrs in computers but never really used Windows, went from DOS and CP/M and mainframes to Mac without a glance.
But I still have a lot more to learn.
