IPOD v 1.2.2 made all the songs show only in itunes
Posted: Nov 12, 2007 10:16 PM

I updated to IPOD software version 1.2.2 tonight, and now no songs show up on my IPOD, BUT all the songs are showing in Itunes. I do not have Windows XP or Vista, so I cannot update to Itunes 7.5.

How do I fix this?
HELP!!!

It seems that Itunes 7.5 fixes this problem for those on XP or Vista, but there seems to be plenty of people like me on Windows 2000 who have no fix. Anyone if you can go back to 1.2.1? Can someone from Apple tell us they're on the case?

I am so glad I looked here before going to the Apple Store steaming mad as I had planned to do on my lunch hour. So I have to download 7.5 and that fixes it?
I of course restored my ipod and went through resyncing it only to find out it still was empty according to the ipod but loaded according to itunes.

i have just updated to 1.2.2 and restored my ipod, and now all my playlists and photos have been deleted from my ipod. itunes says that i have 27.84 GB of audio on my ipod but there is nothing on there! i manually have the playlists selected in itunes for my ipod and have tried to unselect them then sync and then re select and sync again but the only playlist that shows in my ipod is on-the-go......which has no tracks in it. i see this has happened to a few people......but what can we do to fix this? i am on the other side of the world to where i purchased the ipod, my warranty is still covered....what am i supposed to do....throw it out and get a new one! i am so frustrated!

can anyone out there help us!!!!!

music is my life!

I've encountered this problem and beaten it by rolling back the firmware to the 1.2.1 version. At its root cause, this seems to be an incompatibility between the newest version of iTunes allowed on a Win2000 machine (7.4) and the newest version of the iPod firmware (1.2.2) . Those who are claiming that the problem can be fixed by using the latest iTunes (7.5) don’t seem to have considered that the latest iTunes isn’t supported for Win2000. It seems to me that if iTunes 7.4 won’t work with iPod 1.2.2, then iTunes 7.4 shouldn’t allow this “upgrade” to occur. Apple seems to discourage rolling back the firmware, but I did it successfully as follows:

1) Start with a fresh reboot of your PC with iTunes (and anything else not immediately needed) not running.

2) Remove the copy of the iPod firmware version 1.2.2 from your PC. It’s below the “Application Data” folder for your user account, and while I don’t have a Win2000 machine nearby to identify it exactly, the path is something like: “C:\Documents and Settings\myaccountID\Application Data\iTunes …” The file names include the “1.2.2” identification and their date should be 11/12/07 or newer. CAUTION: If there isn’t another similarly named file pair in that same folder with a previous version like “1.2.1” don’t proceed with these instructions. You won’t have any older version to roll back to.

3) Unplug your network cable so that iTunes can’t download the newer firmware that is causing your problem.

4) Start iTunes, and when it’s ready, connect your iPod USB cable. When iTunes recognizes the iPod, you should see the “Summary” tab of the iPod device in the main pane, where your songs usually are displayed. If this isn’t the case, you may have to select the iPod device from the list at the left, or you may have to select the “Summary” tab in the iPod pane. Again, if this doesn't match what you're seeing, you shouldn't continue with these instructions.

5) HERE’S THE GOOD PART: Click the button that says “Restore” so that you are attempting to reset all factory settings. The software will attempt to download the latest firmware so it can update your iPod with the new (incompatible) firmware along with erasing all your music and resetting all your configuration choices. However, since you have disconnected the network, eventually, iTunes will give up on the download and ask if it’s OK to use the earlier version. Accept this option, as THIS IS WHAT YOU WANTED ALL ALONG.

6) Now follow the screen instructions to finish loading the version 1.2.1 firmware, resetting the iPod, etc. You may have to say “OK” to some dialog boxes warning that you have improperly disconnected a device without shutting it down first. When you’re done, depending on other options you may have selected in iTunes, you may have to force a manual resync of your iPod. You’ll have to redo any selections in the iPod itself, like setting the time zone and the time, etc.

7) When I had completed this procedure, I had wasted a few hours figuring out how to roll back the firmware, but my iPod was working perfectly, just as it had been 24 hours earlier before the Apple upgrade ruined it.

I forgot to mention this, but when you're done, be sure to reconnect your network cable. After this, when iTunes offers to upgrade your firmware, be sure to politely decline.

I use Windows 2000 at the office and my ipod is doing the same thing after the update. I have an XP machine at home. If I do the update there and connect the ipod will it fix the problem? Next question - should I not use my office machine any more for this?
