Airport Disk Problems

I have a 350g WD Mydrive partitioned in two mac sections. One is earmarked for Time Machine, the other is general use. I have copied a music archive to the general partition. The problem is that I copied it while connected directly to my MBP and now while connected to my AEBS, there are no folders found on the drive. If i re-connect the drive to the MBP - bingo, there are my folders. I need help.

If you look at some recent threads, you'll see that this is a problem with Airport discs with 10.5 especially after the 10.5.1 update. Currently there is no fix or workaround. I'm having the same problem.

Oh, and just to prove that it's a Leopard problem, as I said in another thread, I have a G4 iMac running 10.4.11 that is not having this problem, and also a Dell running XP Media Center that also has no problem accessing the external on the AEBS. The G4 Powerbook with Leopard? No dice. Funny that a Windows machine is actually working better than Leopard with airdisk, currently.

Same issue here... I'm running a Maxtor 500 GB drive, through Airport, could connect to the drive before the 10.5.1 update, but only if I used the "Go to folder" function in finder, now after the update can't even connect. I am also having problems ejecting the disk while connected via firewire... Not impressed with Leopard so far, it's a joke.

Wow. This is really discouraging. I was expecting someone to show me what I was doing wrong.

Woah, are you serious? I am having Airport Disk problems as well, and that's the reason why I'm here in these forums trying to find an answer. That doesn't mean that I am not impressed with Leopard and that it's a joke like it is for you. Leopard is a real nice major upgrade, with bugs (and small ones at that) like any other software. I think at this stage anyone related with computers at all should know this.

No, I think that is the version of Airport Utilities. The Basestation's firmware, is it 7.2.1 or 7.1.1 or 7.1?

Firesign,
I just connected my XP machine via ethernet to my airport and as before, although I can see the drives and write to the drives, I cannot see the folders that were located on the drive prior to connecting to the AEBS. This seems like a AEBS problem.

I've been having problems with Airport Disk and 10.5.1. After I access the Airport Disk, I cannot eject it. When I disconnect the disk from the Airport Basestation and then connect it directly with a Mac and run Disk Utility, it reports some minor header errors. I fix it, then put it back on the Airport, but the drive still hangs. I think that there is a problem with 10.5.1 and the Airport Disk function that may lead to some data corruption issues.

After experiencing constant problems with Airport disks throuhout 2007, I was hoping they would be finally solved with Leopard. And no wthey seem to have suddenly got worse, with disks simply not showing up at all in the Finder under 10.5.1...
This comes on top of Apple not delivering on its earlier promise that Airport disks would be sueable with Time Machine.
What is going on? I'm seriously considering ditching Airport Extreme and reverting to a physical connection between the external HDD and at least one of my Macs.

Airport Disk has been demonstrating serious connectivity issues since the last two firmware updates. Until Apple gets their butt in gear and corrects this glaring defect, I recommend rolling back our Airport's firmware to 7.1. This seems to resolve most of these issues. The annoying thing is that Apple fails to acknowledge that these recent firmware versions are the root of the problem and the Airport utility obnoxiously prompts you to upgrade the firmware every time you start it.

I have it working today under leopard and firmware 7.2.1. I have been experimenting with it this week. I was having problems using 7.1 with Leopard; my internet connection speed was half what it was using 7.1 with Tiger. I found Tiger and 7.2.1 however completely unworkable (I'm not sure why, I do have a number of airport express' running as print servers or connected to stereos and such.)
Once I upgraded to 7.2.1 after upgrading to leopard Airdisk started to work. Then it stopped the next day and I was unable to see the drive again. I read on another thread that ejecting the disk from the airport using the utility and plugging the drive into the computer directly then ejecting it again then connecting it to the AEBS again made it visible. This worked I could see the drive but could not connect to it. I realized it was trying to connect as a guest and I had not enabled this in the airport utility. Enabling access to the drive as a quest fixed this. I now have access at least for now.
I think Airdisk has problems with sleeping computers and hard drives that go to sleep that are attached to it. Under 7.1 the hard drives never seemed to sleep. Great for being connected not so good for the life expectancy of the drive (some people have complained of drive failure. This is probably due to the brand of drive enclosure and the drive itself.) I have noticed the hard drive going to sleep under 7.2.1. This may be why it only seems to work for a while.
I will let you know if it stops again and what I did to get it to go again. Please let me know if this works for you because this still seems to be unresolved and I would love to use this for Time Machine if I can get it to be reliable. Let me know If you have any questions I will be monitoring this thread.
