The new one is equipped with coverflow, and better battery life.

the classic has lots of bugs. most of them will probably be fixed soon, but right now it has some really disturbing issues.

the differences are actually not THAT big. apple wrote a new interface for the classic (split-screen) and since the classic has a much better display they were able to show some addition information in the menus were needed. stuff like that. bigger capacity, better battery life, cover flow, games ... that's basically what's new with the classic.

The classic will NOT work with 3rd party accessories, or even many previous versions of apple accessories. Apple expects you spend huge amounts of money on their branded new accessories. I returned my classic and would recomend anyone wanting to use an ipods features then stick with the 5th gen models.
