You can use "Keyboard Viewer" to view characters that you can enter using the keyboard, or use the "Character Palette" to insert characters. These are available in the input menu that can be enabled in the "International" system preference pane.

How does this keyboard viewer work then? It's the up arrow /\ sort of like that but smaller and near the top, and the circle with the arrow pointing north west. I can't find them on my keyboard. I'm learning shortcuts...

I just need to know where the /\ key is on my keyboard its and important short cut key, there are no keys with it written on it. Its like /\ a little small head of an arrow pointing up.

I doubt that you can make these with the keyboard, except possibly the Unicode Hex input layout. You need to find them in Edit > Special Characters = Character Palette. Try View = Roman, Arrows for ↑ and lots of others. ⎋ is at View = Code Tables, Unicode, 238B.

Closing the thread to ask in another, the people who responded did not understand what I was asking so I wanted to reword it.

Are you looking for a caret? ˆ

It's option-i.

maybe he's talking about a keyboard shortcut...control + option + n or something...

^⌘N

re-reading the post, looks like he's looking for the escape key. maybe trying to activate front row from the keyboard - command + escape.

Do you mean the up arrow used for menu shortcuts? That represents the Shift key. Or the ^? That's at Shift + 6.

From his other post it turns out the right answer was "the control key."
