Solution to Dirty Trackball on Mighty Mouse -- NO DISASSEMBLY REQUIRED!

I too have been plagued by the dirty trackball on the Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse. Although I love the mouse, cleaning the trackball as per Apple's instructions had done nothing. I have found a simple way to remove the lint/dirt etc... from inside the trackball WITHOUT disassembly of the mouse!
First, clean the mouse and trackball as according to Apple's instructions.
Next, take a piece of bright white paper, turn the mouse upside down on it, firmly press down on the ball, and vigorously run the mouse quickly up and down, left and right, AND in circles over the paper. After a while (it took me about 1-2 minutes), the lint and dirt that's been building up will break free of the sensors and when you take the mouse off the paper, you'll see everything that you cleaned on the paper -- and the scroll ball will work just like new.
I finished by cleaning it again with a damp, lent-free cloth.
Let me know how this works for you!

My (2nd) Mighty Mouse hasn't quite reached the state of total dump yet, but I was intrigued, and tried your method out, and I see a small speck of dirt left on the piece of paper after the experiment! This is great news. Excellent! Thanks.

After a couple months or so my MightyMouse had the standard down scroll problem. So I started using USB Overdrive, which helped. Then when my left scroll for up didn't work, I wasn't happy. I decided to give your tip a shot and it mostly worked. No down scroll still, but at least it's not constantly telling me I'm scrolling right. Hehe.

Wow! Actually worked. My bluetooth mouse can scroll down again. Interesting to note the bits of crud that came out. Icky, but fixed.

This forum is great because it has people such as yourself to post EXTREMELY HELPFUL resolutions to problems that arise....AWESOME tip on how to get a mighty mouse trackball functioning properly again. I watched and followed the video on Apple's website and still had the same problem till I tried your paper trick.

wow this is amazing it really works. usually i just stick a pin in there, but i was always afraid i was messing with the sensors or pushing the dirt deeper inside. this time my method didn't work. so i went searching for another method, bc apple's method never works. i found the disassembly method and realized that wasn't for me. but this one worked wonders. immediately.
