Must insert twice for Import to work - has anyone else experienced this?

I insert a CD and it starts to access the grace notes then nothing. CD doesn't even show up in Finder. I eject and wait a couple of seconds and insert CD again. This time it works and import begins.
I have "import and eject CD" set on the import (advanced option).
Anyone else experience this issue? Having import work on the 2nd go around?

This happens to me too, on maybe one-third of the discs I try to import. The CD appears (with track names) after inserting it the second time. It happens for me regardless of whether I have "import and eject" or just "show CD."
It didn't happen prior to Leopard. I've sent Apple feedback on the issue.

It does the same thing for me:
Insert CD, CD pops up in Finder, then in iTunes. Gracenotes identifies CD, iTunes asks "Do you want to import?" I click "yeah go for it" and it magically disappears from everything- iTunes & finder. I eject and try again, same bit only when i click "yeah go for it" it imports it just fine.
Weird. Annoying. Please fix soon.

I frequently have a similar problem. I get as far as the YES button for importing and then poof the CD disappears from iTunes 7.5. I have to turn the external drive off and on again before iTunes recognizes it. I tried closing and opening iTunes, but it still won't recognize the drive until the drive is switched off and on (it's easier than taking a paperclip to manually eject the disc). I've never had this problem until updating to OS 10.5.1 or maybe the iTunes 7.5 or the combination, can't tell for sure.
Very annoying.

Just an updated - same issues even with the import setting to "import" not "import and eject CD".

This is a very annoying problem and I'm eagerly awaiting a fix. But in the mean time you can make it less annoying by leaving Disk Utility open. If the CD disappears from iTunes you can go to Disk Utility where you will see the CD in the list of volumes. Click on the CD and then click the Mount button. It will immediately appear in iTunes without having to go through the eject cycle.

Same happens to me, though it did not happen before I upgraded (just 2 days ago) to Leopard.

Well, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one. I thought I was losing it. This also started for me after the Leopard upgrade. Question to everyone who has posted in this thread, have you upgraded to Leopard & did the problem start after your upgrade?
I have posted for someone help on this thread, so hopefully someone will be along today.

I now have a solution from Frank Canzolino, another L4. System Prefs.>CD/DVD, check to see what is listed to open for CD's. When I checked mine, there was nothing listed to open upon CD insert. I suspect that the Leopard upgrade blew out that preference. Anyway, I entered iTunes from the dropdown, re-started the Mac, & the first CD import worked perfectly. No more disappearing act! Hope this works for everyone else.

Add me to the list. I updated my PPC Mini to Leopard last weekend, Software Updated it to latest and greatest (including iTunes) and the only other thing I've added is Firefox. Did a flat install of Leopard, not an upgrade, as I wanted to rebuild my iTunes library from the original CDs (only about 50 of them so no huge problem)
With iTunes running, I set the import options to "...and eject" and stuck in the first CD. It appears in Finder as "Audio CD", iTunes access Gracenote, the track names appear in iTunes for an instant then disappear and the CD disappears from the finder. After ejecting and reinserting the CD (or mounting in Disk Utility) it appears with the right album name in the finder and iTunes imports and ejects as it should.
The "System Preferences, CD/DVD" settings for what to do with an audio CD were already set to open iTunes but given that I'm just importing disc after disc without closing iTunes I don't see that as being particulary important. In fact, I set it to "do nothing" and still have to eject/insert. I've now been through every combination of system preferences/iTunes import preferences and it doesn't work.
I'm wondering if the change in label (from "Audio CD" to the album name as retrieved from CDDB) is being handled differently in 10.5.1 compared with 10.4.x? It does work perfectly when the label is right.
What a pain in the bum!
Elaine.

Sadly my preferences are set to iTunes already and I still get the problem.
Interesting footnote though...it appears that the double CD insertion thing does not happen if you insert a CD while another track is playing from the library.
I have imported about 30 CDs this afternoon and so long as I am playing another track at the same time they import first go
Strange but true...

I've started getting this recently, I have already upgraded to Leopard but had miported several CD's since then with no problems. The first CD this happened to me with was one with some type of 'enhancement'. I'm not sure if it was just copy protection or something else. I'll try and find the CD that did it and let you know what the difference was, I think it was Open something . . .
Sorry for the lack of info, I'll be back when I've got some more

cd's would not show even aftr multiple mount/dismount, the disc would appear for a split second in itunes then vanish. cd set to open itunes but tried having it do nothing and that made no difference however having itunes open with a track playing fixed it, thanks, now all we need is for Apple to work out what they screwed up....

My new iMac 24" with the included Leopard update installed does it more than 75% of the time.
That's 75%+ on a sample of 300+ CD's and it doesn't seem to matter if a song is playing or not at the time! (I am in the process of re-ripping my entire CD library).
It's a total pain - the CD mounts, iTunes starts to work on it, it appears briefly in iTunes and then it closes in iTunes and dismounts itself.
I keep Disk Utility open all the time and just re-mount the CD using that each time it happens.
