Movie rental time limit: 24 hours not enough?

If I am in the middle of watching a movie and the 24 hour limit is up, does the movie just quit or will it keep playing until it's finished?
And is it just me, or is 24 hours not long enough? Suppose at 7:00 I decide to rent Cinderella for the kids, but by 8:00 they're all asleep. They'll have to wait until the next night to watch it, but unfortunately when the clock strikes 7, the rental, like Cinderella's coach disappears. It might play to completion if I start it at 6:59, but if I wait until 7:01 to continue it, I'm SOL
Wouldn't a 30-hour time limit make more sense?

Same here. I rented a movie last night to watch on my iPod Touch, but fell asleep. I imagine this will be an issue for a lot of people. There are plenty of reasons people have to interrupt a movie. 72 hours would seem to make a whole lot more sense and I don't see how it would negatively impact anyone's business model. Better business than depriving a lot of folks the right to watch the movie they paid for...
Now, what happens if I set the clock back on my iPod?....

I've posted this feedback to Apple, and perhaps if enough people do, they'll at least think about it:
Pay $1 more for 12 more hours. So, if you get a movie at 6PM on one day, the kids can watch it one night, and then when they want to watch it again, just go online and pay the $1 and extend the rental for the prescribed time.

I think it should be 72 hours, right up front. That's a reasonable time period for most families, and those of us older folk that can't always watch a whole movie in one night.

A time limit based on playing time, rather than clock time, is what would make the most sense to me. I think you're all right, though, a 72 hr or 3 day limit would be good enough for most people.

My previous post regarding this issue was pulled due to "inappropriate non-technical issues". So i will try to be more technical. I downloaded a movie over a three day period only to find that the movie had a 2 hr window left after the download was finished. This was due to the fact that i clicked on the rented movie icon to see what it was (this was my first time renting). The movie played for 10 sec. then i stopped it. I guess i was unaware of the 24 hour limit.
I feel that if you have a 3o day rental...you should be able to view the movie for 30 days, and as many times as you wish during that 30 days. Its good enough for Netflix and the like. I don't think I'll rent anymore form iTunes.
That is my two cents.

My guess this is a marketing thing (maybe like iPhone). Bunch of execs sitting around saying let's only make the rentals 24 hours to get/see interest. That ticks a lot of people off. Few months later you pay an extra buck for two more days or whatever. Instead of raising the price they make it look like an option.
Corse this is JMO. I love the fact we can rent. Just want it longer.

I agree! If I can rent a movie for a couple of days with a rented DVD, why can't I do the same with iTunes rental? Makes no sense to me.

Nah, this is the standard model used in other video-on-demand and video download services.
One other thing to consider: If you're watching a movie, it won't stop it in the middle. So if you started watching a movie at 9:30, but don't finish it that night, you can continue watching it the next night as long as you start it before 9:30. I can see that helping a lot of people who don't finish movies in one night.

I just used the service and we only watched an hour the first night. The next night just before the 24 hour period expired we started watching the second half of the movie and our guests were being loud so I reverse back 2 mins. As soon as I did this it blanked all the video and wouldn't let us finish watching it. 24 hours is not enough time. Oh and btw you can't change the system time to watch it over again, they already fixed that bug. I tried that after I read someones post to finish seeing the movie and it did no good.
