Blue Vertical Line in Display

I have a brand new 24" Intel based iMac (less than 3 months old). Came loaded with Leopard, and was working fine. Turned it on this morning and there is a blue vertical line thats runs down the left side of the monitor. It may have been there before, but last night I changed my wallpaper display and really noticed it. If it was there I think I would have seen it while using other programs with a white background (like mail). Do I need to return this device? I also read al the post about the left side being less bright than the right. I noticed this on my machine on the very first start up and I am still not convinced I should return it for that defect as well and then get a Pro, with separate monitor. Everyones thoughts are welcome..Thanks

Helpful

get your unit serviced. You are probably experiencing the issue that MANY 17" iMac users are .. I currently have 3 lines (with the 4th starting to fade in and out), 2 pink and 1 blue. Oddly the line is harder to see on a white background then on other colors, right now it is easier to see the lines in the gray areas of this apple page and again through the dock at the bottom of the screen.

I have the same problem and it's apparently widespread You can find reference to it all over these forums. The company seems to refuse to admit to a faulty product, presumably because they don't want to pay to fix it. They've even locked some of the forums here that relate to the problem.

I just bought my iMac Intel Core 2 Duo 17 inches in late 2006. Unfortunately, I currently has a display problem like everyone else, an unwanted purple vertical line on the right side of the monitor (Just today really). I called up the Apple store in my local area (Thailand), and a technician gave me 2 options of replacing its main board or a new monitor (as my 1 year warrantee just expired). Then I asked him if it supposed to be the Apple's faulty. Silence.... I am an Apple Fan. I just had to buy my new iMac because the main board of my PowerBook G4 was broken down. Anyone has an answer all all?

Hi all,

My dad called me this morning to tell me that his White Intel iMac had a weird line down the middle of the screen.

After the usual troubleshooting over the phone, I googled iMac screen issue - and what did I find?

A ton of people having this issue!

I followed a link to a MacNN.com article:

http://www.macnn.com/articles/07/11/30/imac.screen.failure/

that had a write up of the issue and a link to a thread in this forum - which is now LOCKED.

Apple, if you read through these - do something. This is unacceptable. An LCD screen should last longer than 15 months.

Do the right thing and do the extended warranty plan like you did with the iBooks.

I also have now received my first yellow line in the left half of the display of my 20" Intel.

I'm not a happy bunny as I read through thread after thread on this forum with more and more people stating this problem, and Apple just ignore the problem or lock the thread, (that action says to me they know its something they should be sorting out)

I am seriously considering getting in touch with Watchdog at the BBC to see if they can help resolve this issue.

I've just been in touch with Customer relations over in Ireland, and they have said that even though my warranty expired 33 days ago, they will cover the hardware.

I've got an appointment with my local apple store (Trafford Centre, Manchester) tommorrow morning where they will look at it - I've told them its not a software issue, but will let them look at it anyway.

Will let you all know how I get on and if I get a replacement LCD screen.

Well I've just dropped the Imac off at the Apple store in the Trafford Centre, Manchester.

The guy on the Genius bar was very helpful, confirmed that it would require a new LCD screen, and told me it would be ready in 6-8 days.

I've been really happy with the service I've received especially as my warranty expired 33 days ago.

I just wish Apple would extend this service to all the other people who have experienced this problem.

The only downside to all this is that the new LCD display carries a 90 day warranty - so if I experience the same problem in another 12 months, its not covered.
