Dual Quad-core Mac Pro reboots from sleep

My brand-new Mac Pro nearly always restarts rather than waking up from sleep. Just now I left it to go to sleep by itself and came back two or three hours later. When I touched the space bar, it restarted.
I have an IOGear firewire hub plugged in with nothing attached to it and lots of USB devices plugged in.

More and more people have this problem, mhmhm.
I've noticed the same problem for one day with my new MP 2.8 dualquad, got a reboot after every sleep.
This solved the issue for me:
• Reset the PRAM (Boot the machine and hold ALT+COMMAND+P+R for 3 startup gongs)
• Reset the SMC -> http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304123-en
Good luck !

I think that solved the problem. At least after doing what you recommended it woke up properly the next time after sleeping a couple of hours.
Thanks for your help.

Same problem (reboot when awakening from sleep).
Didn't happen every time I woke up the machine, but frequently.
I did the power manager reset (shut down while in Finder, disconnect all cables and the power cord, leave with no power for > 15 seconds, plug cables back in, reboot).
Thus far, the box now wakes up from sleep without doing an unexpected reboot.
I have no third party RAM, but I do have several USB devices of varying age (Soundsticks speakers, and an early 17" Mac LCD that requires the ADC->DVI converter to get power to the display and video/USB from the display; the display won't power up the computer by pushing the power icon below the screen, even though the light there pulses briefly when I press on the bezel at that location).
There must be a HUGE matrix of things that people "might" attach to their computers by USB. Hard to imagine they could all be tested in combinations to verify that none of them will put unanticipated power loads on the motherboard when asked to respond to a a "wake from sleep" request.
I'll post again if my Mac Pro starts rebooting when awakened. By the way, I don't have any 3rd party RAM yet (most vendors say they're building it and will have some "soon."

Bad news. After sleeping overnight, the Mac Pro rebooted when I pressed a key on the keypad.
Weird how this would happen after it's been asleep for hours, but not for just a few seconds. To me, that suggests a hardware problem, perhaps something related to the temperature inside the box or electrical oddities of things plugged into the box.
Not a good thing!

When it wakes from sleep there is an inrush current. How's your UPS and circuit doing?

I have been following this thread with interest since I purchased a standard configuration 8-core Mac Pro last week form my local Apple Store. Occasionally, it reboots when being wakened after an overnight sleep. I have only Apple RAM in the Mac Pro. My Mac Pro is the ONLY thing on a dedicated 15 amp circuit and the Mac pro is connected to a new APC RS1500 UPS which can supply 865 watts. I have noticed that on waking up from sleep the UPS shows a maximum momentary draw of about 400 watts -- well within the capacity of the RS1500 to supply.
I should point out that this rebooting upon waking from sleep does not occur every time, but only occasionally. The machine always boots promptly and I never see any error messages either on screen or in the Console Log. I do have a Caldigit VR firewire 800 Raid system attached via firewire 800 as well as a Lacie firewire 400 minihub, and a Lacie 1 TB firewire 800 disk attached. I have several USB devices attached to the Mac Pro as well. I do not think any of these devices are responsible for the problem as all were attached to my 24 in. iMac that I have now given to my wife. The iMac did not have a reboot problem when waking from sleep.
I have not migrated any thing from the iMac to this Mac pro. All software has been reinstalled, permissions repaired, and the HD verified.
I believe there is a problem somewhere in the Mac Pro, but I have not felt it serious enough to return to the Apple store.

There was some feedback on the inrush and I would be surprised if new units would have the problem. But someone people really put their systems on underrated or have trouble even with a proper unit. And some have no UPS at all.
However, I would not rule out what worked as being safe or not the culprit. Seen enough problems with USB and FireWire cables even with nothing attached.

Me too; brand new 2x 2.8 quad-core frequently reboots instead of waking from sleep. I've also have times when it refuses to wake from sleep and the only solutions is to hold in the power button until it turns itself off.
I'll try the PRAM and SMC reset to see if it makes a difference.

Do any of you have the "restart on power failure" setting in Energy Saver?
