We're constantly working to make Aperture an even better tool for users, and will soon release an upgrade that includes RAW format support for new cameras and other exciting new features. Please stay tuned.

Your are late dear friend. My client doedn't know waiting for me, I must have my work quickly and give my production right now. Why Adobe can have it job done and Apple do not??

It would be nice to have an idea what 'soon' means? - This week, this month?
Also surely it wouldn't do any harm to list what new cameras will have RAW support. I'm looking for the Sony A700 personally.

Hi Joe,
don´t get me wrong, i really love aperture.
But your answer brings the problem, we pros have with apple, to a point.
We all want to know WHEN the program would be released and WHAT cameras are supported. My clients aren´t amused if i will tell them that they will get their photos, i shot with my 1Ds MIII, probably soon.
I for myself wasn´t in doubt that the program isn´t dead, but that´s not enough to work with.
Adobe with lightroom has two key-features:
- the nearly immediately support of new cameras
- a wonderful uncomplicated communication with their clients
That´s what their product makes so interesting for pros.
Hope we soon will see some changes.

Joe, thanks for the update and hope.
I do hope that soon, means "real soon". Raw support for my Olympus E-3 is essential, and will make the difference between staying with Aperture, which I like except for the delayed RAW support or moving to Lightroom. The sooner the better before I am forced to make a move to another product, as many pros and semi-pros have already done. An Aperture update will also impact my decisions regarding new Apple Equipment. Let's face it, if Aperture 2.0 comes out, I'll update my Mac computer now, if not... then equipment upgrades can wait, for quite a while if need be. Lightroom runs quite nicely on what I already have and is cross platform.
The small update is appreciated though.

Joe,
Thanks for the teaser. One question: what should I do? I bought Ap. 1.5 yesterday (it's scheduled to arrive tomorrow). Is the upgrade (vs. update) free? Should I return my purchased version within the two-week window?
A little guidance would be appreciated.

To folks who want a specific release date I would point out that few software vendors ever provide such specifics. Product release timing is just too vulnerable to unforseen delays.
In response to Steve and other new software purchasers immediately before an announcement, usually significant consideration is given. Something like free or low cost upgrade in the first 30 days or something like that. You will have to wait and see, but don't get all worried about it until you know there is a problem.

Thanks. I'm not too concerned. I liked Ap. enough to buy it in its current incarnation so I'm confident things will work out.

Ok, I'm the first one to hold Apple's feet to the fire when it comes to Aperture but you have to give some credit here. Joe no doubt had to sign away his first born to even get this out on the web... This is very very unusual.
So, I'll be the first to say, "Joe, when you get a moment to breathe, try to get Apple to see that this is an important step in business, and right now, it's going to get ugly out there so every bit helps"

If that is the case perhaps you could advise what the release date and features of LR v2 will be? I have been an Adobe user for more than a decade and I typically find no more info from Adobe than from Apple; in fact often less from Adobe.
As to <<< the nearly immediately support of new cameras >>> that certainly was NOT the case with the D2x and the D100. Recent (unspectacular quality) RAW conversions for D3/D300 do not IMO yet qualify as the nearly immediately support of new cameras as a long-term description of Adobe behavior.
Note that I am neither dissing nor supporting either vendor, just describing my observations.

My point was a little bit more specific.
No question: the new program will hopefully have a few real "wow"-features. But theres a whole lot of us who are using aperture as a tool, not as a toy.
I for myself, need a tool i can rely on, something I can work with, no matter if my camera is changing. I don´t want to work with different tools for each camera.
I waited for more than six weeks for the support of my Canon 1DMIII and now I´m waiting again if and when aperture will support the 1DsMIII.
Ok, working in lightroom isn´t that bad, but I´m tired of switching and if I don´t see some real changes in Apples supporting the pros I don´t come back to ap.

Agreed, more prompt pro DSLR support is essential. Hopefully after v2 is out Joe will give us a statement that in the future RAW support will be implemented much more quickly.

I'll grant you that Adobe is often not much more communicative than Apple. But to say their D3/D300 update was "recent" is disingenuous. And they're not the only dog in this fight...quite a few developers have released support for these cameras, and none of them have been all that "recent". Many even predated the release of the cameras.
