trackpad and incidental contact

I am enjoying my MBA. One thing that's bugging me: incidental contact on the trackpad by your hand causes the curser to jump to where the blinking curser is while you're typing and it is quite annoying. I haven't found a way to stop this from happening. The issue is, the track pad is so big, that you have to train yourself to type NOT letting your hands rest on the trackpad.
Is anybody else, experiencing this? I was unable to find a setting in system prefs/keyb to change it.

Wonder if it's possible to disable the track pad (like if you hook up a mouse)

I could disable the trackpad; but my dilemma is that I love the gestures feature of the MBA. And disabling would take away that feature.

In System Prefs, go under the trackpad tab and select ignore accidental trackpad input.

Thanks, at least now I know where to go to deal with this issue. When I went to system prefs, it would not let me open the trackpad pane of keyboard & mouse preferences.
Mac help has a link to the trackpad pane. And when I click on it, I get this error message:
The Trackpad tab of Keyboard & Mouse preferences is hidden because you do not have a trackpad installed on your computer.
I'm "on hold" right now with apple care waiting on a specialist.

An Apple specialist says that feature is no longer an option in Leopard. She told me that I could turn off the "one finger/tap to click" option, because I didn't need that feature. That could solve the problem. But although I don't "need the "one click" feature, I told her that I "wanted" it.
Anyway, she said I could take it to a service provider to determine whether it is a hardware or software issue.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but where do you see "Ignore accidental trackpad input" as an option? Here's a screen snap of my trackpad preference screen of my MBA:

Has anyone found a way to fix this issue? This is my daughter's first macbook. I found her using her old pc to type school work because she hates typing on her new air. HELP!! any add-on software to help on this? I don't think the had position you need to use to type on the macbook is ergonomically correct if you have to lift your hands of the trackpad. Apple sure needs to fix this issue.

Thanks for your post. I was beginning to wonder if anyone else was having the same problem. I don't hear anybody else talking about this issue! I was beginning to wonder, if it was just me.
You make a great point about the "ergonomic" factor. I didn't even think about that.

The only "fix" has been described in this thread - go to Systems Prefs under the Apple Menu, select the Keyboard/Mouse Prefs, select TrackPad, and disable One Finger - Tap to Click. That will fix the jumping cursor problem but take away a nice feature in the process. The TrackPad on the MBA is larger than other MBs, especially so on the right-hand side. Leopard took away the option to ignore "accidental" gestures on the TrackPad. So the MBA TrackPad design and Leopard's "feature" on options for the TrackPad are the culprits.
I've learned to live with the TrackPad button but don't like it as much as the One Finger - Tap to Click command.

I agree, Apple needs to fix this soon. I've been using Macbooks for years and am also having this extremely annoying problem with my MBA. Turning off "tap to click" to work around this problem means giving up one of the nicest features of a trackpad.
I can't imagine why Apple would take a step backward and remove the "ignore accidental trackpad input" option for the new trackpads. I hope there's not a hardware reason for this and they'll get around to adding it in a software update. Soon. This problem is very annoying.

Hmmm I don't see the option you are talking about in any of the tabs.

June 17 and this issues is still not resolved.
Apple, please fix this problem by restoring the "Ignore accidental trackpad input" option in the
System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse
menu for the MBA, we're waiting, and those of us who've adopted your new product are becoming progressively more infuriated that you've REMOVED the fix for this problem from the one model most affected by it.
