Before anyone says anything, I know there are other posts about this subject. After upgrading to 10.5.2, time machine has been stuck in the "Preparing" mode of a backup. I have read other post about checking the console for stuck files not permitting time machine from backing up and have it has come up with this {/System/Library/CoreServices/backupd122: Event store UUIDs don't match for volume: Macintosh HD} The other post said to delete this file but i cant seem to locate it. Please Help

What Time Machine is doing is reading through all of the files AGAIN because after an OS update, the system files change, and so, Time Machine will sort through all of the files on both the backup drive and the internal drives, (especially since Time Machine was updated) and will take no more than one hour to sort through (1 hr for two internal drives of 250 GB). Then it will backup. The backup afterwards might take a while depending on the files it thinks it needs.

If your updated system is working properly otherwise, why not just erase the Time Machine volume and let it start afresh? Yes, it will take a couple of hours to rebuild your backup, but it will be a clean one.
I also understand that the new version of DiskWarrior (4.1) will repair damaged Time Machine volumes (according to their site), but I haven't tried it yet.

Actually, yeah that is the best way to go about it, unless there are files that are still important that you need that aren't already on your internal drive(s).

Double check that you have a computer name in the sharing preferences pane and try running disk verification and repair on both internal and external drives from disk utility.

As Dave Marsh Said "why not just erase the Time Machine volume and let it start afresh?" i did try this. the initial back up works fine but it still gets stuck in the "preparing" mode i gave it about 10 minutes but i will try to give it longer
