New MacBook Pros: No Apple Remote Included

Looking at the "What's In The Box" contents for the new MacBook Pros (Penryn), the Apple Remote is no longer included in the contents. Further, the $19 Apple Remote now shows up as an option in the Configure To Order listing.
Hopefully, this is a mistake! Surely Apple isn't so cheap as to not include the remote?!

I think that's why it makes sense for Apple to drop this from the standard spec. Many of the poeple who use a MBP won't use the remote so it's understandable for Apple to save a little cash on including this.
I don't think that $19 is unreasonable.

I agree, and now that they've taken this step to make the remote optional they should open up front row to third party apps. This may serve to entice buyers to purchase the now optional remote?
With the exception of itunes, i myself rarely use the other apple apps accessed via front row.

The Apple remote is now a pay for item, however, in this country (Australia) the new model is significantly cheaper so even if paying for the remote the whole package is way cheaper and you get a bargain. Previously the cost of the remote was built into the cost of the computer. Now those who don't want it don't have to pay for it and only those who want do pay. Seems very fair to me.

I can understand why the remote is not included in the new MBPs. For the most part, you would be using it in a close enough proximity that you wouldn't NEED a remote. The exception being if the MBP is your only puter-based entertainment unit, and thus you might have a need for the remote.
I have found out the remotes are fairly interchangeable. The remote from my mini (Core solo)would have effect on a friend's MB (Core duo). Now this may no longer apply but it's worth a try if you have a slightly older Mac that DOES have a remote.
And Will: Hi!... I got the Apple stickers in my new MBP box. Of course that is an entirely different can of worms that is discussed elsewhere on this board.

trust me - you were paying for the remote with the previous MBP. now you have the option to buy it only if you need it. mine is still siting in the original box, wrapped in the original plastic with the seal unbroken. i want my $19 back. ;o)

I have to agree with Mark. This must be a mistake. The remote must be around $1 to manufacture, so why not include it with the computer that touts Front Row as one of its main features? Seems very lame to me...
Of course, this won't stop me from upgrading
