No kidding, I picked mine up last thursday. The kid didn't even offer me the 99.00 rebate for the printer. I get home find out about it and let it slide, then this.

I contacted the apple store I bought it from they said I could return it but there would be a restocking fee of 200.00 or they would give me a credit of 300.00 dollars. The store is 1 hour away and they require the laptop, all parts, the box, and the recipe brought back into the store to give the credit.

Look at your Apple receipt. The policies for returns, exchanges, and price protection should be on it.

There is no "upgrade protection" exactly. If you want to return it for any reason, you can do that within a very short period of time, a few days, whatever it says on the policy. Exchanges might be a little longer. There is another category called "price protection" if Apple drops the price within a period, I think it is two weeks.

With these new models, Apple hasn't dropped the price, only upgraded the features. So you probably need to be within the return/exchange period, because price protection probably won't help.

In any case, read your fine print, it explains everything.

I just went to the Apple store today after calling them about the recent changes. I purchased a Macbook Pro last Sunday, so a little over a week ago. I opted for the refund seeing as I would have to pay almost $200 for the 10% "restocking fee" and I am more than happy with the computer I purchased. All you have to do is ask to speak with a manager. You'll also need to have your receipt, or in my case my invoice seeing as I bought it online. I have a $320-something refund being mailed to me (because it was purchased online), but I'm sure if you bought it from the store they would refund it right there. I'm not sure what the time frame for the price guarantee is, I always assumed it was the same as the refund policy: 14 days.

To the poster above, the old models have been reduced in price. Not online, but any stock that is in stores is selling for $300 less.

Hope this helps!

I spoke to a person at apple today...

The return period IS ONLY 14 days.

And if you have your MBP customized (such as an online order), you can't do ANYTHING after the 14 day period, unless it breaks or something.

I bought this 2.2 MBP with 160gb, and mannnn do I wish I had the 250gigs for an extra 50 bucks...

instead of paying the extra 75 for 160gb. o well, it is what it is. I'm still happy with this book.

I bought my macbook pro last friday at the Apple Store in Brea, CA. This morning, when they came out, I started calling around to the Apple Stores in the LA area. I'm fortunate enough to live within driving distance of 12 Apple stores...I Love LA!...Anyway, I packaged up my old one, all nice and pretty, did a restore of the OS, took it to one of the stores, and asked the Manager very nicely if, since it's an exchange, and not a return, if he would waive the restocking fee. He was kind enough to, and I am now writing you on my brand spanking new macbook pro. The only complaints I have, are that the display resolution on the 15.4" still *****...and that the new notebooks don't come with the remote.
