OS 9.2 Browser availability?
Posted: Feb 27, 2008 11:03 AM

An associate is using an iBook with OS 9.2 and is struggling with websites not supporting his current browser. More and more he can't view sites because of incompatibility with his "outdated browser". The catch is that he can't find a browser anymore that is compatible with Mac OS 9. Is there one out there that he can download?

Buckman, welcome to Apple Discussions.

I switched to Mozilla for OS 9.2 & like it better than IE or Netscape. It works on web pages that IE & NS have problems with. Plus, Mozilla has a pop-up ad blocker & a password manager. Download Wamcom's Mozilla browser at:
http://wamcom.org/latest-131/

Some other users like iCab. Look over this list Mac Web Browsers, Present and Past

Using Mozilla you will still have a few problems at some web sites, since you can't use the the latest version of Flash, etc.

iCab 3.0.5 for OS 8/9 came out on Jan 1 2008. It is a very good browser but has slow Javascript support. For the location of plugins you should read the FAQ on the homepage.
Wih both Wamcom and iCab installed you can alternate and will find one or the other will make a problem site accessible. Allow both browsers ample memory.

I like WaMCom's build of Mozilla 1.3.1 as well. It seems to still work with most of the web.
