Solution from CUPS author...

I found this while researching my bonjour problem. It worked for me.

Solved

The CUPS author created a small utility that should help with the 10.5.2 upgrade and the Airport problems:

http://ftp.easysw.com/pub/cups/contrib/FixAirportPrinter.dmg

Steps:

1. Add Airport printer
2. Run FixAirportPrinter application
3. Double-click on printer in list (or click on printer and click on
"Fix Printer" button)

Please weigh in with any results you have.

I am a Mac newbie and somewhat scared to do this - can anyone tell me more about it?

As of a few days ago, I can no longer print wirelessly. I can only print if I plug my printer into my laptop. I am thinking this might have to do with the 10.5.2 update.

I am using Airport Extreme and the Canon MX310. I updated my drivers (CUPS) and tried all the basic stuff (reset printing, deleting and re-adding printer, etc.)

Thanks.

Bill,

This fix appears to be related to the initial issues printing via Airport in 10.5.2.

The more recent issues appear to have surfaced thanks to the Security Update 2008-02 installed via SU and range from an incompatibility with Instant HiJack, a corrupt pstops file, and authentication errors printing to SMB print servers.

None of these would seem to be fixed by this utility.

Hi Bill,

Add me to the long list of people who lost the ability to print via AP-connected printers after updating to Leopard.

I ran your app, but it did not list my printer. A few possibly interesting details:

--I have a non-apple wireless AP
--in the Leopard Finder, my printer does show up under 'Shared'

In a way this is almost as frustrating as losing the ability to print in the first place. The Finder knows my printer is connected to the AP, but nothing else can see it, including your fixer app.

Thanks for any help!

FixAirPortPrinter also solved my CUPS problem. I notice that this program has now put in the correct URI for me.

THANK YOU! I recently upgraded from 10.3 to 10.5, and was having a very hard time getting my old printer to work (Samsung ML-1210), compounded by the fact that I was trying to set it up while it was attached via Airport. I finally gave up on that and just plugged it in via USB. Then the CUPS solution worked. Two seconds later I found this thread, and a minute later the FixAirportPrinter.dmg file fixed the airport glitch. Thanks! This could have been incredibly frustrating except for you!

Do a search here for "/usr/libexec/cups/filter/pstops failed," and you should find some workarounds, including replacing this file using Pacifist or updating Rogue amoeba's software (if you have that installed).

Hope this helps.

Nope, still nothing here. But in fairness, I don't even get to the point of adding the printer. My ability to add Bonjour printers disappeared with the upgrade to Leopard. All other hardware and software unchanged.

Hi Bill, I downloaded, opened and hit Fix Printer and nothing happened or showed up on the screen. Printer says it's online and ready then goes offline as soon as something gets sent to it. Same problem with my other wireless network - Belkin/Linksys. Any suggestions?

@artuitive:

This fix only works for CUPS printer drivers.

I've been trying to get my Samsung ML-1710 printer to work with my Airport Extreme. It does print, but takes as long as 15 minutes to print small files like a 32KB excel spreadsheet.

I'm using the latest samsung drivers, and don't understand what these CUPS drivers are or what to do with them. I found this link on linuxprinting.org, http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Samsung-ML-1710. But the install instructions are for linux and make no sense to me.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Andrew

I decided to give FixAirportPrinter a try and it worked! Wireless printing is now just as fast as when the printer is connected directly.

Thanks very much!
