Whats this in my mail queue?

My server is set up so only authenticated users can relay. In other words its NOT an open relay. Yet when I looked in my Mail Queue (in the server admin app) I see a ton of unknown emails!

What are these emails? Is there a way I can view them whole? Of course my concern is that somehow I am being used as an open relay even though I'm closed. What is the deal?

What you are seeing is backscatter from spam which you are trying to bounce. Coming, as most spam, from unknown addresses it just sits in the queue until it expires.

Hmmmm
Does this mean spammers are able to use me to send spam, by sending spam TO fake addresses at my server, and FROM the destination address they really want to spam? That way my server will bounce the spam right to it's destination?

Common practice and a reason not to bounce spam. Mostly it is just backscatter to fake/inexistent senders.

So how do you disable the bounce function?
Short of writing a shell script that gets called instead of bounce, I can't think or find a way to do it.

In amavisd.conf set final_spam_destination to D_DISCARD
Also make sure Postfix rejects as much mail as possible before it hits the content filter. See here: http://osx.topicdesk.com/content/view/38/62/
