Wired Keyboard: Right Arrow Key Not Working Properly

The right arrow key on my new wired keyboard doesn't work on the first press. After the initial press it works, and if I'm only using the arrow keys themselves it works fine too. But otherwise it takes two presses to move the cursor initially.

For the record, I have exactly the same problem with the keyboard for my new iMac. I noticed it right away- for me the first 2-3 right arrow keystrokes will consistently not register, then it functions normally as long as it is being pressed, and with about 5 secs of nonuse, the problem returns. I did update the keyboard firmware when prompted upon setup with no issues. I'm likely to bring it in to an Apple Store if there are no suggestions. Good luck!

I have the exact same problem with my keyboard. I had the keyboard that came with my MacPro exchanged at an Apple store because of that problem and a key that would get stuck down and then popup. This replacement keyboard still has the right-arrow key problem, though.

I'm having this issue too. Extremely aggravating. Is this something I can return to the Apple Store and get exchanged I wonder?

Definitely. In my experience, they're pretty good about returns and exchanges.
To me, it seems like the right arrow thing might have just been a bad batch of keyboards...I JUST got back from Best Buy, where I originally bought my keyboard. I exchanged my keyboard b/c of the right arrow, and this new one works beautifully.

I just took my keyboard to the Apple store today for the same issue. It's been plaguing me for months. Interestingly, this is my second aluminum keyboard. The first did not have this issue.
The tech guy could not recreate the problem on the computer in the store, so they were unwilling to replace the keyboard. He suggested that it was due to a lag in PowerPC applications, even though I explained that it happens in every application. Given that the problem did not occur on the PowerMac in the store, I think that helps narrow down the issue to a hardware/software interface issue rather than a problem with the keyboard itself.

I just received my second aluminum keyboard from the Apple Store (on-line store) today. It has the exact same right-arrow problem that my first one did which I bought at the local Apple Store. The old white Keyboard that came with my iMac did not have this problem, nor does a MacAlly IceKey.

Have you verified that you have the firmware upgrade for the keyboard installed?

Yes. I tried to install it but it wouldn't and gave me a message that the firmware was already updated.

I found the problem, at least for my keyboard. Open Keyboard Viewer from the International menu, the one that displays a flag.
Tap the right arrow key lightly. Nothing happens on the viewer. Tap any other key lightly. They display just fine. Now, give the right arrow key a firmer tap. You should see that it registers every time as long as you tap it a little harder than the other keys.
So, at least in my case, it is keyboard specific. That probably explains why some have the problem and other's don't. I will exchange this keyboard for another one until I finally get one that works. Thank God for "Keyboard Viewer" or I never would have nailed this down.
Poor quality control at play here me thinks.

I too am having the exact same problem with my wired keyboard. However, it it just started after a few months of usage. Is this something where the Apple store will still likely exchange it.
I found it hilarious that I googled "apple keyboard right arrow key" and found a bunch of people with exactly the same problem. I intend to show them this thread if they give me any problems about the exchange.

UPDATE: My keyboard was at least 4 months old. I just walked into Apple Store and replace it in 15m with no receipt. Thanks Apple!

After 3 keyboards I finally found one that works. Apple QA *****.
After getting a defective one, try a different store to make sure you avoid a defective batch.
Apple QA *****.
It's a really slick looking keyboard and I'm glad I finally found one that works. I've never had trouble like this with a keyboard before. But I guess it's just cause Apple QA *****.
