Solving the Photoalbum and Slideshow problem in Firefox 3
Posted: Jun 17, 2008 2:24 PM

I followed the link in this post.

At the bottom of the page of that link there is mention of a solution.

Goto this page and this page and download both Attachments. If the attachments are displayed in the browserwindow, save them.

The name of the JavaScript file is displayed at the top of the page. Look at it.

Quit iWeb.

In the Finder type Cmd-Shift-G and paste this line:

/Applications/iWeb.app/Contents/Resources/Widgets/

and click Go.

In the Widgets folder:

1. Select HeaderControls.iwdgt and Right-click/Control-click. Choose Show package-content in the menu.

2. Drag file HeaderControls.js from the folder to a safe place on your desktop.

3. Drag the new HeaderControls.js into the HeaderControls.iwdgt folder. You need Administrator rights to replace the file.

Close the HeaderControls.iwdgt folder.

1. Select DetailView.iwdgt and Right-click/Control-click. Choose Show package-content in the menu.

2. Drag file DetailView.js from the folder to a safe place on your desktop.

3. Drag the new DetailView.js into the DetailView.iwdgt folder. You need Administrator rights to replace the file.

Close the DetailView.iwdgt folder.

Open iWeb and publish your Site to a folder to test.

Open the published folder and open the album page in Firefox 3.0.

You should see the albums and slideshows.

If it fails replace the old JavaScript files in the original loacation.

If it looks oke, publish it the way you normally do.

No guarantees, no help available. You are responsible.

Good luck.

Unfortunately it will only help with new sites. We need a fix for Firefox so that it will interpret previously published iWeb sites correctly.

At least we can start publishing sites not that will be FireFox compatible. Thanks.

Thanks for the help, it worked for my sites as well. But I agree with the other posts on this page that this is problematic for most iWeb users who will not know about this fix.

Update: didn't work for me. FF3 still can't see the photos on a photo page or slideshow. :(

OT,
What I found needed to be done before it worked was not detailed in the previous answer. I had to publish the site to a folder (I don't have a .Mac account), then upload the new site to my hosting account. Actually, you only need to replace the "Scripts" folder because that is where the changes seem to be. Once I uploaded, I had to clear my browser's cache and then it worked. You probably did all these things, but just in case, I thought I'd post.

I did publish to a folder but it didn't work from the folder. I also deleted the site and then did a publish all and that didn't work. Will try the replacing the Scripts folder after publishing to a desktop folder and see if that will get FF3 to work. Thanks.

Just to test, you could try moving the files that Wyodor linked to directly into the Scripts folder. Place them into the appropriate subfolders of your published site as he describes. If that works, then you need to follow his instructions to get the change to be permanent.
Good luck.

So is this really Apple's issue, right? They need to update their javascript libraries?

To move this topic to the top here's some additional info.

Without having to re-publish your Site again, you can replace the 2 JavaScripts files on the server.

Go to your Sitename folder and open the Scripts>Widgets folder.

Replace DetailView.js in folder DetailView.

Replace HeaderControls.js in folder HeaderControls.

Clear the cache of your Browser and reload the pages.

Firstly I want to thank Wyodor for taking the time to research and post the information. At least it's a step forward.

Alas this solution did not work for my site. Firefox 3 still refuses to display any of my albums or slideshows.
