.Mac is still down

I saw the conversion start last night before I went to bed. I tried it just now and it is still down. Wonder if they had some problems. You would think it would just be a "flick of a switch". (so to speak) :-)

Do we have an official response from Apple yet? I'd like to see Mail back up by the end of the day...

Mail using Mail.app on your Desktop or iPhone or iPod touch works.

I love Apple and use .Mac for my emails and web publishing but have some questions.

I've had problems with my .Mac account where I can't get into my emails even when they aren't doing fixes. Has this happened to anyone else?

Also, is it possible that Apple could have a back-up server where we never have to worry about loosing access to our emails?

It does not make sense that people would be cut off from their important emails, especially for business. People don't lose access to using their cell phone and if they do they switch companies. My point is that emails are just as important as phone calls.

Anyway I was curious as to what other .Mac users thought.

For those of us who use webmail from work on a PC that's not very helpful.

It seems to be up and down; I've got in for a few seconds only to be booted. My web site is back up (hosted on .Mac) and iDisk seems to be working. Everything else nada.

Back up? Mail hasn't been down throughout the whole update period.

You've been able to access it via POP3 or IMAP continuously. Only webmail has been down.

Well as far as what I think is I think it's stupid. I can't access webmail. me.com is a stupid domain but since they're keeping my old address I don't care. What I do care about is that I can't access my email right now. I understand that the amount of data we're talking about is massive and it would not be just a flip of the switch as one user said if they are switching servers. However, that doesn't mean that webmail would ever have to become unavailable. They could structure the switchover such that the original stuff continues to work until the new stuff is fully online.

I agree that it is just as important as phone calls, sorry to be impatient, but oh well. I need my email, not in an hour, not by noon. Now. I assume that as soon as I check, when this sentence reaches a period, webmail will be back up.

Hmm...I don't really feel like for $100/yr I should have to play roulette with different methods of accessing email. I spend 9 hours a day in a location where my only access to personal mail is via webmail. This is a service that a number of different companies would offer me for free so I can't just shrug and say...oh well "only webmail has been down" so that's good enough.

I agree, it needs to be NOW. If GMail goes down, you can complain all you want, but it's free. .Mac, um, no. At $99 per year, my dollars are being burned every minute I'm without service.

Thanks, I only have web access during the day. But glad to hear it's available through other means.

It just seems like they need to apply more logic to this whole process.

I would use the mail tool but I have always had problems with it so it's more of a nuisance than an aid.

Has apple posted a "How-To" get access to email during an upgrade?

very very very very very very annoying, this breakdown (already for how many hours?...!) unbelievable it's coming from the company we so trust(ed?). I think here i a 'sorry' (or any answer) would be appropriate. Maybe with a little gift, making up for a day's loss of being technically unemployed. Autrageaous, someone said. I agree.

I have had Mail responding fine. Noticing Mobileme setup guidelines on Apples site I went to .Mac in System Preferences and everything was still in .Mac form. So i logged out to refresh it... since then not been able to log back in, Mail is okay but otherwise no service :-(

I guess Apple is slowly spreading the service throughout the world, I hope to see it soon. Keen to get used to the new service.
