Apple server shutdown is blocking complete 2.0 update
Posted: Jul 11, 2008 6:21 AM

I just got off the phone (it's now 9:19 a.m.) with an Apple tech support rep because my last update to 2.0 would not complete -- the "accessing iTunes store" part. The tech said that Apple's server has shut down because of the huge surge of people who are updating their phones. They are now working on it, he said.

Hmm, maybe they should have released it yesterday so not everybody would be updating at exactly 8am today?

thinking about it ..... what a bunch of nuggets !!!!!

global rollouts just do not work !!!!

surely anyone with common sense would know this.....why not just issue the update to each country as they reached the 8:02 timeline, but no, they released to billions at once....!!!!

priceless ! first o2, now this.....priceless

So how are we supposed to make it check if the server is back up? restart iTunes? Reconnect the phone?

I got through to support and can verify it is a server issue on Apple's end.

It was suggested I just keep trying to connect, maybe give it 15-20 minutes between attempts.

Did they happen to tell you what to do whilst waiting for the itunes store to open again? Is the phone usable or dead? Is it ok to unplug it from the laptop? I have to get on a plane...

Well to all the poo pooers against updating yesterday from the file THAT CAME FROM APPLE....I thought all along they put it out there knowing that some sharp users would find it and therefore stress test the install before the official rollout.

I, for one, am up and running beautifully since yesterday.
