Replacing broken iPhone
Posted: Jul 11, 2008 8:29 PM

I dropped my 1st generation iPhone on the subway and the screen got all cracked. I could still use it without any problems, so I didn't get a new one. However, yesterday, my brother got a 3G and gave me his old 1st generation iPhone. Is there a quick way to have his unbroken iPhone replace my old iPhone?
I have restored the unbroken one and then said to restore from the last backup of my broken iphone, so the data is all there. However, the phone number is still listed as my brother's and the phone has no service.
Any way to use his phone to replace my broken one?

Remove your brother sim card from the iPhone and put yours in.

You may have to call AT&T to register hte new mei for your phone to your sim card.

Yep, it was the SIM card. Thanks!
by the way, though I had to go through the initial set up routine with the selection of plans and all that, AT&T said on the phone that I had not started a new contract or anything like that. Also, I now have my cracked iPhone without a SIM card, making it essentially a bigger better iPod touch. I am thinking of keeping it around my apartment to use as an iTunes remote or some other type of wireless controller. Sonos, you have just been replaced.
Thanks for the help!
