We are a couple of swedish guys that have been talking about the Iphone 3G since we bought it and then we started to compare the old phone and the new and everyone had extreme problems in lag in the interface on the Iphone 3G compared to the 1st Gen Iphone. So we decided to make a video so people can really see and compare.
This lag that people are having is not the only problem but is followed by Applications crashing, OS is freezing, safari going haywire. touch not responding.
Also ive gotten info that upgraded 1st Gen Iphones that have updated to 2.0 is getting the same lag.
1st video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wE7HKFcQxoI
2nd video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DL7n9Vo7mJw&
3rd video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLoAWRU0mHE&NR=1
Anyone who can reproduce this?
Apple you need to act now!

This is indeed annoying...I did a similar side by side test and YES the new operating system on the iPhone 3G is much slower for every application...typing is a pain because of the obvious response delay...they need to resolve this immediately cause it's no fun using a slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww iPhone !

Are you comparing this to first gen with the new 2.0 firmware? I'd like to know if it's the firmware or the hardware.

I actually played with an iphone in the store and my son pointed out the lag. I think it's a software fix and not a hardware issue. may I suggest that everyone who has this problem, tell apple in the feedback section and anywhere else that they can, as that's the only way apple will resolve it!

My friend tried holding the power button and home button until it restarts, after that the lag was almost gone.

I have the 1st gen with 2.0 and have the same problem. This speeds it back up temporarily. Lag is back 15 minutes or so later. Especially annoying in the phone app.

Both my wife and I are having the same problem. We both have 1st Gen iPhones which have been upgraded with the v2.0 software release. My wife finds it especially annoying when typing text messages or emails. I hope this gets fixed soon as sometimes they become un-usable.

I'm guessing it may be a database issue.
Contacts uses a db, larger lists are slower. the typing hits a dictionary db . . . . im just guessing but it seems like a possibility.
My chat is OK when I don't access the contacts information. My Contacts is SLOW. That is one app I use a lot . . . . so hopefully a fix is put out soon.
(I had the same exact issue on my gen. 1 original iPhone after I upgraded to 2.0 and I had the issue on my G3 when I bought that one.)

I would definitely like to add myself as one of the annoyed up-graders with this lag issue.

I have the first gen with 2.0 on it and the lag is very annoying also. Mainly on the contacts screen, but also with typing. When the contacts display I click on a name, sometimes two or three times before it comes up because of the lag and sometimes one of the clicks happens to be on the phone number after the contact comes up.
Another place I see bad lag on 1.14 and 2.0 firmware that has always bugged me was when you are in Safari, then click on the address bar and want to type in a new url, when you click the X to delete the current entry it takes something like 5 seconds before it goes blank and you can start typing the url.
