iphone 3g- battery meter not moving?

Today my battery went dead on me while I was showing a full charge in the battery meter icon at the top of the home screen..... I then realized that the battery meter was not moving after a full charge, which means I have no way of knowing how much battery life I have left.
Anyone else experienced this? Any ideas on a fix?

I just had the exact same thing happen to me yesterday. It was 100% all day and then all of a sudden, I got the message saying I'm almost out.

Known issue - discussed here in many threads (do a search).
We are all hoping for a fix.
Until then:
1. Reboot your phone
2. Let it run down until it shuts down
3. Charge it fully before using it

I had this same problem. All of a sudden a screen came up that showed the battery in the red zone, while the meter at the top right hand corner of the screen showed a full charge.
The only thing that worked for me was a re-boot. This is different than just turning the iphone off and then on.
You hold down the home button while holding the on/off button, when the screen shows the slide to turn off the phone, ignore that. Once the screen goes black the iphone will automatically re-boot itself.
I tried all the other things on this post, and this is what worked for me.
Hope it helps.

Same thing here. It's plugged into my computer (and had been all night) but is not charging. I know the cable is good, because it's getting power and I forced the phone into dfu mode and itunes recognized it and did a restore on it, but still back to the empty battery and lightning bolt.

I had this on my iPod nano (3rd gen) . battery indicator on the top left gave full charge ; but the battery on the screensaver said almost empty
This was solved after the latest firmware update , so I am 100% sure ( anything less than 100% would be speculation , which on this forum makes my posts dissapear) that a firmware update (didn't speculate about which one) solves this situation

Yeah, here's hoping. (Forgive me, but this is going to sound snarky...not directed at you or anyone on here)....
iPhone is a bit different than an iPod. Without music is fine. Phone isn't something I carry around for enjoyment. I had been expecting calls this weekend from prospective employers, and who knows what's going on now. A battery that after a year has been fine, and up until 2 days ago seemed to be just peachy, is all of the sudden dead without warning or notice?
So whenever the firmware update happens, I'll be able to use my phone again.
Good to know.

Well I a disheartened by the amount of failures of the iphone 3G involving the batt. indicator. Mine has had 2 different glitches. One where the iphone was completely charged overnight but the batt. indicator only showed half full. I rebooted and then the indicator was correct. Two the battery indicator stayed at full but after much use for music (last.fm is great BTW) it died saying battery was dead and needed recharged. I was prepared to make good on my purchased extended warranty but if so many phones have this same problem whats the point!
