please any idea how to turn off GENRE column in the browser and also links to shop?! i've never used it and it's very annoying for me to have it there all the time... previous versions allowed me to turn ON/OFF these features...
i am not very happy with this new update... what do you think?

This is also my top complaint for the new iTunes. I really don't understand why these options were removed. I'm sure lots of people are going to complain about this though so hopefully there is already a non-obvious way to do it, or it'll get fixed in a patch asap.

I second that emotion. I hope everyone makes ALOT of noise about the fact that Apple has removed the ability to hide genre and Store links in the browser.
You can disable the music store completely from parental control, but I like to access and yes BUY stuff from the store on occasion. Why are you dictating the use of the genre tag Apple? It's such an arbitrary and personal thing. What someone else might consider ethiopian world pop I might consider folk metal...Music is so frequently badly tagged.

I agree. I won't upgrade to iTunes 8 until there is a fix for these two preferences.

On a Mac, open Terminal.
To remove the Genre...
defaults write com.apple.itunes show-genre-when-browsing -bool FALSE
To remove the arrows...
defaults write com.apple.iTunes show-store-arrow-links -bool FALSE

Launch iTunes and select a Library or Playlist. Go to View>View Options and uncheck Genre. Click on Save.
You'll have to do this for each Library and Playlist

That's not the browser, it's the list view.
That is the only place I've found a Genre column. Exactly what contortions do you have to do to find it elsewhere?
Are you talking about the Genre PANEL on the main iTunes Store page?

I wholeheartedly agree – very lame of Apple to remove 'disable genres when browsing' feature. The genres are the most arbitrarily irrelevant category. More so than ratings!
BTW, I did the terminal thing and "viola!" genres no more!!

Thanks a lot. Worked like a charm through Terminal. Now using iTunes8 without the genre's being showed.

Ah. When there, I went to View>View Options and turned off the Genre COLUMN. However, the Genre and Sub-Genre PANELS at the top stayed.
I've never used the browser option before, btw. I learned something new.
