OMG HELP SUPER IMPORTANT QUESTION HELP HELP HELP INTIAL SET UP FAILS!!!!!!!
Posted: Sep 11, 2008 5:28 PM

Ok, so I am starting to get frusterated, my friends refurbished iMac isn't getting past the part (when you first turn it on for the first time ever) that asks for internet, he checks "do not connect right now" and it doesn't do anything, then the wheel comes up, and it stays there. He's done multiple restarts and NOTHING HAS WORKED.

I have many mac's and have never encountered this problem, and it doesn't look like a lot of people do either. Is it possible that maybe the refurbished mac was just faulty? HD failure during shipment or something?

You might try doing an erase and install.Boot up with the install disk while holding down the C key. Something might have been corrupted when they refurbished that Mac.

If he doesn't have any files on the iMac then just do an erase and install. Will take a while so be patient. There are some options to customize if you want like languages, ect.

to be honest if this is the first time your booting up the iMac and an error has occured, i would immediately take it back to Apple! who knows... they might even give you a brand spanking new iMac instead of the refurbished one.

Doubtful. If it can be repaired once, it can be repaired again.

do-able
my friend brought a refurbished macbook online, when it came there was a problem with his keyboard, whenever he typed something it would come up like this:

HeLLo

so he took it to apple, they apologized that this has happened to his first mac, as their way of apologizing they gave him a brand new macbook! it could of been repaired... must of been his lucky day!
