iPhone 3G 2.1 says no Sim Card
Posted: Sep 12, 2008 8:07 AM

Hi, just finished downloading and intalling the 2.1 firmware update and everything was just fine, but after the update my iPhone 3G says "No Sim card inserted" and instead of signal bars i get this No Sim message.

So Restoresd via iTunes, After Restore it now a message on the iPhone appears saying "No sim card installed, insert and unlocked and valid SIM to activate iPhone". Could you help me please!

Do you have service with AT&T or a hacked iPhone?

Movistar told me to get a new SIM with a different profile. In the phone shop, they put the SIM in their phone and it worked, so i took it to try again in my iPhone.
Now it works!

Helpful

Are you using the SIM that came with the iPhone? 2.1 may have requirements that don't work with older SIMs.

I also have the same problem. The only option I have is to use my old hacked iphone if I don't do this I will have no phone after Apple fix the problem.

Talk to your Carrier. They will get you a new sim.

This is the first software upgrade I've done that came up with the message "Sim Is Registered" when it completed. None of the others did that.

So I assume Apple did this to validate sims, maybe to shut down lost, stolen, or blackmarket phones.

I'm guessing they just missed something and your carrier fell thru the cracks or something. It seems to be mostly happening in Europe.

Is it possible that the new firmware affects the SIM directly or that is not possible.

I ask this because I try to use the same sim in a first generation iphone and I got the invalid sim error.
