I have the same problem on one of my two Macs. From Finder I can share folders and screen share from my MacBook Core Duo but I can only share folders when using the Core Duo iMac.
The problem is being caused by the Remote Desktop Client 3.2.2 update that occurred on 9/16/2008.
I restored the iMac, from Time Machine, to late in the day of 9/15/2008. This was right after the 10.5.5 update but before the Remote Desktop Client update. All Finder functions of file, folder and screen sharing returned to normal. I then allowed the Remote Desktop Client update to install and the screen sharing function was lost when trying to share the iMac's screen with the MacBook.
Something is wrong with the Remote Desktop Client 3.2.2 update that does not affect all hardware configurations the same. There are other threads on the "Remote Desktop" forum which is actually where this thread should.

k9jri,
You are probably right, I updated to 10.5.5 and Desktop Remote 3.2.2 at the same time.
If you ever find a way to fix the problem, would you mind posting your results here.
Thank you.

Try setting access to "All users" in your System Prefs>Sharing pref pane for Screen Sharing or Remote Management preferences if it isn't set that way already.

Thanks Charlie but already set to all users. You might want to re-read my previous post.... all works well until Remote Desktop Client 3.2.2 update loads. No other changes made by me and the update changes no options that I can find.

I am having the same problem, with a twist. My iBook can't see my Macpro's screen. My Macpro CAN see my iBooks screen. My ibook can see my imac's screen and my Macpro can see my iMac's screen.
All are updated to 10.5.5 and all have the latest remote desktop update.
Back to my Mac DID work before the updates, now I can't see my MacPro's screen, I can however still see it on my network and share files.
I have tried rerunning the 10.5.5 combo updater and repairing the permissions, but no luck.
I hope Apple can fix this "update" or some one figures out a work around.

I can also share files but not share screens since updating to 10.5.5. I click the http://Share Screen... button in finder and the Screen Sharing menu comes up but either I get no screen or I get a small black blank window. Both my iMac and MacBook are current-generation Intel. I was able to share screens prior to the ugrade to 10.5.5.

My iMac can screen share with MBA just fine but not Vice Versa. I also get no screen or a small black screen when MBA try to screen share with iMac.
Hope a fix is coming soon 'cause I really like to remotely control my iMac.

Hi.
I have been seeing that when I am under the same router, the first machine that I switch on ( have 3 ) takes the "Back To My Mac" but the rest aren't able to do it. It doesn't matter wich machine is connected, only the first to run takes this service as online. The others say that I don't have a NAT or Universal Plug&Play router, that I really have and have been working since 10.5.5 with this service without problems.
After this I wonder if Apple have changed something in the configuration to allow this option only when you are in different networks or it's just a bug. I use this option often, so I'd like a fast fix for this if it's just a bug.

You can fix this by going into the Sharing pref pane and then select Screen Sharing, and make sure the "Allow access for" is set to "All Users". Let me know if that helps.

Snoop Dog, as I responded earlier to another of your posts this problem is not related to the Sharing options. It is a problem with Remote Desktop Client 3.2.2 update that only seems to affect certain configurations. I have read three posts now where the Mac that cannot be controlled is a Core Duo iMac.
I completely restored my iMac, via a Time Machine restore, to the point immediately prior to the ARD Client 3.2.2 update. The iMac was running 10.5.5 and sharing and controlling between all machines was perfect. I then did the ARD Client 3.2.2 update to the iMac and could no longer screen share with the machine via the normal finder screen share button. The problem indications were identical to those described earlier in this thread. Sharing to all other machines on the local network were perfect, even FROM the iMac to the other Macs.

k9jri,
Can I get some more information on your configuration?
1. Are all these machines on the same LAN?
2. If so, does launching the Screen Sharing App and manually targeting (by going to Connection > New and entering its IP Address) the offending machine work?
3. If not, can you look in the Activity Monitor and verify that AppleVNCServer is running on the offending machine?
4. Also, try disabling File Sharing on the offending machine, and reboot both it and your Admin machine and try again to see if Screen Sharing can connect.
- The Screen Sharing options are tied into ARD, and this issue appears to be a Kerberos authentication issue. So, having access set to All Users "should" allow things to work properly.

Robert Cavanagh,
1. Yes all on a home LAN using an Apple Time Capsule
2. Yes a manual connection does successfully connect to the offending machine.
3. Manual connection did work
4. There is no real "Admin" machine. All machines are running Leopard's back to my mac function. I will try anyway and report back.
