iChat freezes after 10.5.5. update

Since upgrading to 10.5.5, I have experienced freezes while video chatting in iChat. These freezes happen, on average, every 10-20 minutes. I never had this problem with 10.5.4. Anyone else noticing this? Any ideas of what may be causing this, or it just a bug that I should hope will be fixed in 10.5.6?

Same here. After 5/10 seconds or so, both in-coming and out-going video screens freeze, though the audio portion of the connection is maintained. I first thought it was due to busy server times, but it happens all the time since "updating" to 10.5.5. Just goes to show ya, for every action (like updating your OS), there's a reaction. We need to get this one fixed asap. To non-Mac users, it the beauty and simplicity of iChat that makes OSX and Apple's computers so attractive.

Same problem here as well. Since upgrading to 10.5.5 on Friday evening, I've had terrible problems with iChat - I use it every evening and its either frozen or not even started. Sometimes it complains it cannot access the camera - but I have nothing else that uses the camera open.

same problem here only my I chat freezes constantly while talking with my daughter London. We are both using Intel based Mac Book Pros, I'm running I Chat 4.0.5, she is running an earlier program. I hope Apple solves this soon as we're depending more and more on SKYPE.

Just wanted to add that I am experiencing this too. Everything was fine until the combined update to 10.5.5 and QT 7.5.5. Now my video freezes after about 30 seconds into a chat. The sound keeps going for a while. I need to force exit iChat to quit. The are a lot of suggestions on these and other forums about how to fix this: limiting streaming bandwidth, re-installing QT, deleting plist files, etc. Nothing seems to work. Here's what I know so far:
1. Everything was fine until 10.5.5/QT7.5.5 update
2. Not all connections fail. One buddy never fails, one other always does.
3. Test user appleu3test03@mac.com freezes for me 9 out of 10 times.
4. The 10th time it's fine.
5. Shutting off WeatherDock does not fix it.
6. QT streaming rate throttling in preferences does not fix it.
7. Bandwidth limiting in iChat prefs don't fix it.
8. Re-installing QT does not fix it.
9. Re-installing QT in safe mode after fixing disk permissions doesn't fix it.
10. No combination of the above fixes it.
This is a problem the NEEDS TO BE FIXED, Apple are you listening?
I bought a mac because they said "it just works", I guess not.
I suggest we all send more complaints to Apple. I let the app debugger send its logs to apple a few times per day.

Ok, so, I am not the only one who experienced the problem after 10.5.5. update. I tried everything I could, and nothing worked.
No video nor audio chat is working after the update. Sometime, the contacts disappeared from my Jabber list.
Apple Geniuses, we need help to correct the iChat problems asap.

Hi All,
this is what I did this morning after having the same problem with iChat AV after 10.5.5 update and Quicktime 7.5.5 update.
I do not know, where I got this hint from - sorry...but it works for me!
Here we go:
First trash Quicktime's prefs:
It is located in the: Your HD/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Quicktimeplayer.plist
or in: Your HD/User /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Quicktimeplayer.plist
Second, you have to set the Quicktime streaming setting to 1.5mbps:
goto: sys prefs/quicktime/streaming/streaming speed
Then I restarted and iChat works with no more freezing, so far
Hope that helps....

We are having the same problem. We can connect but within 30 seconds we freeze up....audio still works. We have three kids with iMacs that we always video with. Two of them have upgraded to 10.5.5. They freeze up when we talk also. But one has not upgraded yet....triplet 2 1/2 year old girls.....no time. We can video with her as we did last night for 30 minutes. No problem there. So I am guessing it is because she DID NOT upgrade. I have been on phone with apple several HOURS on this problem. Have changed settings and installed new iChat and still no change. Anyone with this problem....always "SEND" error to Apple. We need as many people complaining about this as possible. Apple did tell me that they were aware of this and are working on it. Let's hope it comes soon.
