Self-Restarting iPod

My 30GB iPod keeps restarting by itself at random times. It will do it while a song is being played (whether or not the iPod is on hold), sometimes it will restart itself if the Next Song button is clicked, and sometimes it will do it at the end of an album or playlist. What should I do to fix this, or is it something I can't do on my own?

It May be some firmware problem. Try restoring it with iTunes

I have a very similar issue. My 30GB iPod will restart inbetween songs. The problem is not repeatable--it's not always the same songs and it may work for 2-3 songs, then restart. I restored with iTunes, and the problem persists. I did not have this problem until downloaded music from the iTunes Music Store using iTunes 8. Since then, the only music I've listened to is the music I downloaded.
Could it be bad blocks in the hard drive? Or would restoring map those out?
Please help.

Could be. Try a hardware check. While restarting, put the iPod in diagnostics mode (center+left). Perform HDisk check.

That hardware check was neat--I had no idea that was there! Anyway, my iPod hardware passed the tests.
Good news--my problem is fixed! After I downloaded a fresh copy of the music from the iPod Store (Customer Service gave it to me) my iPod no longer crashes when listening to the latest Ben Folds - Way to Normal (Bonus Tracks Version) album. The only difference I noticed between the two versions was the first set of tracks were at 124 kbps, and the second set was 125.

Yes I am having the same problems! And with the same music too! (Ben Folds--Way To Normal)
After Ben folds though,I bought another new album, and it is having the same problem... (James Morrison--Songs for You, Truths for Me just incase anyone was intersted or if it makes a difference) I guess I will have to write to customer service like you did, and hopefully I'll no longer have this problem. It's getting extremely frustrating
And yes, like you, it hasn't happened before I downloaded itunes 8.
hmmmm....

Hello agian...
I have another question/comment
A second copy of Ben Folds--Way To Normal (Delux Edition) just spontaneously started downloading onto my itunes without me initiating anything, and as far as I have concluded, it has downloaded without charge.
This, as you can see in my last post, was one of the CDs I mentioned that the restarting problem was happening to.....
I didn't even contact costumer service yet to ask for a fresh copy.
Does anyone have any idea why/how this happened or was it a bug of sorts that was a complete coincidence?
I'm very confused.

This same thing happens to me. The song "Mother Russia" in my Iron Maiden playlist causes the iPod to reboot itself. If I skip ahead to Mother Russia from the song before it, it restarts. If I skip back to it from the song after it, it restarts. If i select it from the song menu, it's fine. I tried this multiple times, so something is wrong with the song. How should I fix this?

I have a 5th generation 30GB iPod that is self starting after playing one song and I have tried restarting and also if next song button is pressed 3 times. It has been like this for a week. For some reason it played a full album earlier today but I cannot recreate this. This happens whether fully charged or not. I have tried the HD test mentioned but I either did not do it correctly or it didn't work. Any advice would be appreciated.
