Glossy and Black Border

What got into Jony Ive and Steve jobs to offer us only the glossy option? Thousands if not millions of creative professionals are affected by this. They even did this on the HD-displays.
I still can't believe it. Did they confuse the entertainment line with the pro line or what?
And then what's with that thick black border around the screen? I was hoping the border would be decreased in the new models not increased only to make it look like the iMac.
I'm very disappointed by apple's moves on this and letting us creative pro people down.

I hope they at least offer a 17" MBP without the glass cover. I really doubt this will happen though, considering the new Cinema is also covered by glass.

i actually think the black heavy borders and black keyboards suck. they all look like they are part of the imac range rather than in a class of its own.. the pro line

Jonathon Ive is a creative professional ... and a good one at that ... and I'm sure he's using one. I really like my new MBP, glossy screen and all. If you don't like it, buy a Dell ...

Did you see how shiny Ive's head was in the keynote? I think that explains his love for shine.

i'm REALLY glad they still offer the 17 in the old casing and design. But have updated it to the hi-res screens offering both SSD and anti-glare options. which is why i ordered one today as i realised that the new black keyboards and black bezels are the 'new bling'.. and thats whats going to come out with the new 17's. newer is not necessarily always better IMHO

Very true Sparky but sometimes people are afraid of change ... or don't really know what's good for them ... they just follow the herd.

I think that the new design is suitable for the consumer level of MacBook but not for MacBook Pro. The older industrial design is superb and very difficult to exceed.

I guess thousands if not millions of creative professionals never bother to read the professional trade journals. Rumors about design changes in the MacBooks to bring them in line with the style of the aluminum iMacs have been reported for months. The aluminum iMacs themselves were first released in July of 2007, and are reportedly selling quite well. How any "professional" can be aghast over the design changes in the new MacBooks is beyond me.

Why do you expect working professionals have to spend their time reading trade journals with rumors about Apple products? And then, what to do do before the products are released? Of course the all glossy path was to be expected. It's a disaster for professional applications to have no choice anymore for matte displays. Professionals are upset by not having a choice anymore with the next upgrade if they want to work with OSX. I would never buy a MBP with a glossy screen.

Then why is everyone so upset about it? It's a new design, adapt. I'm starting to get the impression that graphics designers are a rather inflexible lot.

It has absolutely nothing to do with "inflexible".
Why would the pro-line become consumer and not offer the creative professionals what they really need?
I've seen glossy screens myself in real life and tested them. It's horrible to work with. Especially when you work in subtle dark colors and black areas.
Did you see the videos of the new MBP? You can clearly see the reflectivity going on. And it's quite a lot.
Staying on the current 17'' with matte will not be possible forever.

Yes, we're inflexible when it comes to precise color calibration. By your statement it's clear that you have no idea about having to color calibrate a screen or the publishing business.
