Official *Trackpad Click Not Always Registered* Thread

Every ~50 clicks, my trackpad will stop responding for 5-10 clicks. Generally will resolve itself given a few seconds, and is not directly dependent on number of times trackpad is clicked while unresponsive. Everyone having this problem post your personal experiences to this thread.

same problem here. physical clicks fail to register quite often, and when they do they fail many, many times in a row. I often find that finger taps go unregisterd when this happens as well.

i dunno if i'm alone..
but please tell me if you have the same thing going on:
a. the top of the trackpad does not click at all
b. different sides of the trackpad are elevated higher/lower
c. if i use the tap, and i tap on the left half of the trackpad, it is weird low-quality-manufacturing sounding
d.if i click on the right, it's harder to click on the left
IT'S VERY VERY ANNOYING
IS THIS REASON TO EXCHANGE?

The top of the trackpad isn't supposed to click. It's hinged from the top, so clicking should get harder progressively as you move up from the bottom of the trackpad. Can't see any reason why it should be different left-to-right, though. Mine is slightly harder on the left than right. But not so that I notice it much.

Mine, too, makes a slight noise when tapping (not clicking) on the left of the trackpad, but not the right. But I'd hardly characterize it as "low-quality". The trackpad is a moving part. I would expect some sound as it contacts whatever it's sitting on, even when you tap instead of click.
Now, if you can see visible differences in the distance that the different sides of the trackpad are recessed into the case as it's sitting there, then that sounds like something you should show Apple, and get a replacement. But if you just mean that different parts of the trackpad DEPRESS different distances into the case when you click it, then I refer you again to the fact that the trackpad is hinged from the top. So the top is not only harder to click, it also depresses a smaller amount. That is totally normal.

Same here.
-can't move my cursor for a period of time.
-While using some apps, the cursor just disappear
-Cursor jumps (very annoying)
Please be the software related. I don't want to drive 200 miles to exchange it.
has anyone here made a call to apple care about this yet?? I just want to make sure that this issue is just a bug

Hey All,
Haven't posted here in forever, just got the new MBP, my trackpad freezes as well, seems this is a pretty widespread issue.
I have found however one solution that I think did work for me (could be placebo effect but figured I should share regardless).
In System Preferences go to Trackpad, then at the top move the slider for "Tracking Speed" up one notch, I was uncomfortable at first but got used to it and it seemed to make the problem better.
Regardless, im pretty sure this is a software issue (disclaimer: this is just an opinion and is not based on any specific knowledge). Seems to me its the same problem that has occured in every laptop refresh apple has done in recent memory. When they released the first Powerbook with two finger scrolling users reported issues such as trackpad freezing, same with when they first introduced multy-touch, and now its happened with this, and every time they have fixed it pretty quickly. Anyways just my thoughts.
Thanks,
Daniel

I am having problems with extra clicks and Safari resizing. I am constantly having to resize the browser due to sporadic zooming caused by using the trackpad!

Hello, can't say for sure but there was an update out that I hadn't seen until today and I have not had one issue with my track pad...
It might not be related but it could be...

Same problem here. Every now and then the trackpad refuses to register a click. I have to execute 5 or 6 hard clicks to get it to respond. Hoping for a software fix soon because I love this machine in every other respect.

Just chiming in reporting I have the same issue. I nearly completely lost trackpad input (very unresponsive to movement, not registering clicks) for several minutes at one point.

wow i havent been back to the apple discussion forums since buying the first intel macbookpros. But this macbook pro trackpad issue is driving me nuts! I really hope its a software issue they can fix easily. I get so distracted having to click multiple times. Please fix this quickly apple! I wish I would learn to not be an early adopter and get hit with all the troubles.
