Hey
I just received my brand new MBA 2.0 from Apple Store, but there were NO FOUR FINGER SWIPE on it ? The 3 tech support guys I went through, were all clueless to what was wrong, they checked firmware, software etc... nothing wrong but the four finger swipe was not on my MBA 2.0
So I am getting a replacement, unfortunately now I have to wait again... Anyone else with this problem ?

And this one. The problem seems to be restricted to units with keyboards other than the US English one - there are reports from Japan, the UK, Germany etc.
It therefore seems that if one buys an MBA outside the USA but opts for the US keyboard, then the 4-finger problem is not present.

Same here - bought it from the Apple Store, Bluewater yesterday.
Called Applecare and they said "Sorry you bought it from Apple Retail, you have to return it to them"!

Same problem in the Netherlands: no four finger swipe. I contacted support and found out that my air has no serial number. Instead it comes up with this string 'Serial Number System Sal#' (normally this string is the serial). According to support this means that the logic board has been swapped. They said it is strange that a new computer already has its logic board swapped...
My 5 cents is that I have an old Air case (and trackpad) combined with a new logic board. Apparantly Apple Europe had stock of the old Air and replaced the logic to make it new. Seems a logical explanation why I don't have a 'four finger swipe' (since the trackpad is the same old one).
I contacted the Apple store and they are going to ship a new Air to me.
Hopefully it will be ok then.

Hey,
same here. Got my replacement yesterday (W8845..) and the problems still exist. No 4 finger scrolling and the same lines on the display. I'm going to call AppleCare again today in the evening for a second replacement? I'm quite disappointed and thinking about a refund.

That's bad news, on both scores.
It's looks as if all non-US keyboards are affected - no 4-finger swipe for them (replacements will be just as affected). Although I plan to get the US keyboard, I feel very disappointed for everyone who has a localised keyboard and therefore no 4-finger swipe.
The lines on the screen are a worldwide problem, affecting US and localised machines, and I've decided not to buy an MBA for the time being. I do not want to get involved in a to-and-fro saga of returned machines with Apple Switzerland, possibly ending in a refund request.
Christian (and others): I hope your defective machines are soon replaced by acceptable ones - for this amount of money, Apple have to deliver!

Just got my third replacement with serial 8847xx
It still has horizontal lines and NO four finger swipe!
This time I called Apple Executive Relations, and they told me that a software/firmware fix was on its way for BOTH problems.

On the 4 finger swip I agree on a software patch solution. On the horizontal lines I definitely doubt that this is a software problem at all. I in between have returned the second MBA rev2 because of the horizontal thin line problem. 4 finger swipe didn't work either but I do not really care about this problem since it probably will be fixed by a software upgrade. Nevertheless it's very bad quality control advertising a feature which does not work.
Regarding the thin line problem I had "exminded" the display quite a while since the lines were fainter on the second MBA rev2 than on the first one that I returned and the nearer I got the less you could notice the horizontal lines. From normal working distance they were visible. Approaching the display to about 6 inches they barely visible further approaching to about 5 inches or nearer they were not visible at all.
From my humble opinion and with the different distance behaviour of the screen this probably must have something to do with the surface coating thus being an hardware problem.
I am quite disappointed. In retrospective selling my first Gen MBA before getting the second Gen was not such a good idea. But I hadn't expect this device to have such huge problems. After the heat problems of the first Gen MBA and the improved graphics of the 2nd Gen MBA I finally hoped to now get an almost perfect light OS X device I really could pleasure use. The more disappointed I am now. I went for a refound despite the fact that I want an MBA. It's just that they can't deliver one with a satisfying quality ... I probably will wait a few weeks until I will give it a try again, although I doubt that something will have changed .. I really would love it to be so ... for so long I am without any just wasting time and in retrospective money by selling the MBA rev1 by going for a rev2...
By the way, both devices were build in week 45.

I just fixed this issue. It is really a minor issue within the Info.plist of the multitouch kext. I'm wondering why Apple needs such a long time to fix it ...
So it's clear it's just a little bug in the plist file.
