Apple TV HDCP Error Messages

Our ATV has been working perfectly until recently when we installed the 2.2 software. We no can no longer play movies we've rented or purchased (even though we had been able to do so). We can still watch trailers and tv shows. Apple support has been terrible - blaming this on our tv, which they have said is not HDCP compliant. That is rubbish - its a new Sharp LCD, and is perfectly compliant.
Help!!!

We receive the following message:
"This content requires HDCP for playback. HDCP isn't supported by your HDMI connection. Use the component video connection to watch this content."
Its not convenient to use the CV connection. In any event, we can still watch tv shows, trailers, etc. Any ideas?

Have you tried another cable, are you connected directly to the tv or are you going through a switch/receiver, have you tried restarting the tv.

Yes have tried another cable, yes connected directly to the TV, and yes have restarted the ATV. I am resisting resetting the ATV because I'll loose my movies, which I don't want to do.
Is there any way to back out the software upgrade?

Not without restoring the device.

I had the same HDCP error message appear when I tried to play a rented movie. I started to get out the component video cable when my son hit "play" again on the remote. That started the movie. Go figure.

Yet another frustrated user.
I have verified my TV and cable are HDCP compliant, yet have suddenly started getting the same error message.

Frustrating to say the least. The more people yell, the more we have a chance of being heard.
