Error sending SMS
Posted: Nov 26, 2008 6:23 AM

Hi.
I've a problem with send SMS on my iPhone 3G (v. 2.2).
When I try to send an SMS and i press "send", the iPhone returns "Error Sending Message".
I've tried with another SIM card from another Italian operator (I use Vodafone), but the problem is the same. The same SIM on another telephone, works correctly.
I've checked the number of message centre, but is correct.
Can you help me?
Tnx.

Hi,

I'm getting exactly the same issue... Tried restoring, deleting messages, as well as all the checks the previous operator tried. I'm in the UK on O2, firmware 2.2, 16Gb phone with plenty of memory free.

I had the people at the store swap SIM cards with another iPhone they had there, and I they could send SMSes from their phone with my SIM card, however on my phone with their card, they couldn't send an SMS. I already restored my iPhone 3G (2.2), and still am having this problem.

I restored IPhone too, without find any solutiom. It seems to be to me something wrong in the configuration of I-Phone but I didn't find out. Some people seem to have the same problem: may be the Apple-Service can be help.

I've tried to contact the customer care, they don't know what's the problem and they've sent my problem to Ireland. From Ireland, the question was sent to Cupertino because they can't found a fix. Stay tuned..

I have the same issue, SMS just stopped working today, recently upgraded to R2.2. Tried the network reset but no joy.

I have this problem, as well. Interestingly, mine started 12/7, all of a sudden. I notice that several people had the problem develop that week. I spent 2.5 hours on the phone with Apple and AT&T last night. Reset everything, no one could find a solution. In searches on this forum and others, a few people have had this problem in the past and fixed it with a new SIM card. Clearly, though something else is up that several people report it right now with the new software revision.

Yes, did all of the resets and restored the phone as a "new phone" as to not carry over any potentially corrupted software from the restoration of the old settings.

I believe there are two ways to fix this problem. One might be to restore the phone in iTunes and set the phone up as NEW. Do not restore from backup. This of course will wipe your phone clean(no sms history, no call history, no saved application data). This should solve the problem.

The other way can't be discussed because it involves hacking your phone.

I believe the problem is that the SMS folder on the iPhone has it's user id set wrong. Remember the iPhone is basically running unix and if permissions are set correctly, things don't work properly.

That method did not work for me. I restored it as a "new phone" and continue to have the same issue.

Me too. Exactly the same problem.
I've got an iPhone 3G v2.2, Spanish configuration, no jailbreak, no piggyback SIM card, bought at Spain's official distributor: Movistar.

Their support is helpless. I tried several things on my own with no success:

. Empty the message list,
. Off&On,
. Reboot,
. Reset Network Settings,
. Use my SIM card on another phone (can send SMSs on the Nokia but keep failing when I put the SIM card back on the iPhone)
