Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter creates jumpy mouse cursor

I just got the new Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter. It works fine visually on my 30 inch Cinema HD display, but now my mouse cursor is jumpy. Every few seconds as I drag my mouse, the cursor jumps 5-10 inches, making it hard and frustrating to use.
I tried swapping out mice (external Microsoft USB mouse, both wired and wireless), downloading a new mouse driver, turning off airport, resetting parameter ram, and powering the cable via a USB port other than the computer, but the problem persists. I don't see this when the computer is plugged into a 24 inch monitor. So either it's the cable or the computer trying to drive 2560x1600.

Its not just the 30 in. monitor. I tried it on a 20 in. apple cinema display and i'm getting the jumpy cursor too under 10.5.6 . Funny enough, it doesn't seem to occur under windows... but then again, i can't seem to get windows to recognize the external display...

Add me to the list. Have you tried running 10.5.5 instead? Other users claim Quicktime choppiness with the update. Maybe the mouse thing started with the update too.

Well, no I haven't tried 10.5.5 because the adapter says right on the box that it requires 10.5.6.

Same problem here. Very annoying. Tried a variety of mice in a number of configurations. Starts happening when both the USB and DisplayPort plugs on the adapter are connected to the machine, even if the mouse is plugged directly into one of the laptop's ports, instead of the one on the adapter.

One other thing to try:
If you have the little AC adapter plug that attaches to the end of the iPhone USB cable, you can try to plug the Dual Link DVI adapter into the wall (instead of into the computer) for power to see if this helps with the USB mouse choppiness.

As my first post said, I tried powering the cable from a USB source other than the computer. It seems more likely that the adapter is causing some kind of interrupt that is causing the computer to intermittently lose a bunch of mouse events.

I can't believe they
a) Charged us $100
b) Made us wait 2 1/2 months
c) Gave us a defective product
In my opinion, this is inexcusable.

Since I purchased two of these adapters, I decided to try the other one... Same Problem.
To think I waited patiently for over 2 months for THIS!
I've switched back to my original MBP. I will be calling Apple tomorrow to return everything (the 2.8 GHz MBP, both Dual Link adapters, and a printer). This is a ridiculous thing to deal with after spending over $3000.

I guess if you want to return the machine and display adapters that's fine...
But what's the printer you bought have to do w/ the display issue?
Returning the printer, now that sounds ridiculous...

The printer was free with the laptop. Do you have anything helpful to add?

Honestly, I caught the plug for this thread on Xlr8yourmac.com and was quite surprised to hear that the adapters had been hitting the streets... b/c they're unavailable anywhere online.
Where exactly did y'all purchase yours, a local Apple Store or online?
In any event, my take is they may have prematurely released them.

I called Apple support to tell them all about this issue. I encourage all of you to do the same so they don't think it's an isolated incident--you'll probably get a faster fix this way.
1-800-275-2273 to talk to Apple. There is no choice for "Accessories Support" so you'll have to choose "MacBook Pro".
Be patient, because you'll have to explain to the rep what exactly this adapter is and humor them while you zap the PRAM, reset the SMC, etc.
After I hung up, I got my RMA numbers to return everything.

I still cannot understand why you would return everything... Ultimately you want this computer right? Once the bugs on the adapter are fixed are you gonna go back and re-buy it?
Seems like a lot of time spent out of spite and not for good reason. Me, this is the best Mac I've ever owned (and I've owned many. no, really.) and I'm happy to wait for this adapter w/ this machine in stead of going back to my other box.
I observed a similar client of mine w/ an iPhone... after the first week, he didn't like the keyboard and a few other things, so he took it back and went back to using his Blackberry -only to dump the Blackberry again for the iPhone, because he realized that the iPhone still did more things better than the Blackberry.
