Is the Macbook discontinued
Posted: Jan 17, 2009 3:32 AM

Can anyone confirm whether the White Macbook is still current or whether it is being sold through now that the aluminum version has been released. Also is it the same for the Black Macbook which is no longer advertised by Apple?

Many thanks

Yes and here's proof: Apple Store MacBook Line

I believe that they will keep it in the line for the price point; otherwise the price between the 2.0 Mac Mini (488.00) is too far from the 20" iMac (782.00) or the first portable 2.0 Unibody (929.00).

The black MacBooks are no longer in the current line but are available from time to time as a refurbished model.

Many thanks for your feedback and comments; I wondered whether if the White Macbook was end of line that the unibody model might come down in price once the old model has sold through.

My problem with the White Macbook is that the casing isn't very practical; the black version is much better, so it's a pity this one isn't available as well.

thanks again for your prompt reply

Actually, the discussion of possible changes to the Mac product line would be purely speculative which is against the term of use of this forum.

As far as the Black vs. White polycarbonate case goes, there are some that would say that the shiny or greasy problem of the black case exceeds the dirty or yellowing disturbances of the white case. To me, the most practical parts are contained within the case.

To be honest I agree with you. I really hate the polycarbonate shells, I haven't had much problem (Except that it's starting to turn black) but I really hate them and I've been considering a plastic shell over it like my apple techie friend has.
However back then polycarbonate was a cheap material and is relatively durable considering how many times I've dropped mine and many other macs :D
