Poor Battery Life unibody MBP

I have had my unibody MBP 2.53GHz since the first week they were available. I get very poor battery life and nothing even close to what Apple advertises. My last calibration was last week.
Using the 9600 GPU I got 1:40 out of it. I had wireless off and only was browsing in Flock 2.02 with several tabs open. OS X reported an estimate of 1:58 with the battery at 99% charge. Battery health is reported as 100% with 12 cycles.
Using the 9400 GPU I got 2:15 on 100% charge. OS X estimated 2:29. I had wireless off, bluetooth on, Flock, uTorrent and Adium open.
Both times were timed and not just the estimate OS X gives.
I would happy to get 4 hrs on the 9400 and 3 hrs on the 9600. Am I dreaming?

I'm getting exactly the same, not much more than 2 hours. It's less than a week old!
Think I'm going to head up to the apple store and get them to check it out.

I'm using a 2.4 here (not mine unfortunately!), and i'm easily getting over four hours probably very close to the five even. Screen brightness is on 6 bars, bluetooth off and using the wireless to surf the net.

Bay2Sacto: What does System Profiler say about your battery's full charge capacity and cycle count?

Bay2Sacto: Your battery is fine. Its design capacity is 4600mAh, and it's slightly over that. There is some variation from one supposedly identical battery to another — mine consistently shows a full charge capacity of about 4800, with a current cycle count of 10.
Since the battery is OK, you should be looking for some process that is drawing excess power and causing your battery run time to be reduced. Does Activity Monitor show anything using an unexpected number of processor cycles? Is your screen brightness set relatively high? Is BlueTooth turned on?

Please re-read my first post as I state what was running during both timed battery tests. Other than what I previously stated, I had my Wacom tablet pluged into USB and a external LCD plugged into the mini Display Port via a Apple mini dp to DVI adaptor. I have two external HDDs (1 firewire 800, 1 USB 2) which were unplugged during the tests. Screen brightness is/was at 1-2 clicks above 50%. Wireless was off.

The Wacom tablet consumes power all the time, so disconnect it whenever you're not using it and connect your AC adapter when you are. Driving a second monitor, even though it has its own power supply, makes more work for your graphics processor unless you have the external display in mirror mode. Both of those things and BlueTooth are contributing to shorter battery life. Bus-powered external hard drives draw very significant amounts of power, so minimize your use of those whenever you're running on battery power and need to conserve run time.

I've gotten similar battery times when I've been browsing the web in the living room with just wireless on no external devices or bluetooth. I got the times I posted in the first post during timed tests. Maybe I should have been more clear in regards to the external HDDS, as they were UNPLUGGED from my MBP. In any case I think I'll add the battery time to my list of issues. I've been having a few other issues since I applied the Nvidia update Apple has since pulled so I think I'll have to make an Genius Bar appointment soon.

I had to call AppleCare on a separate issue and while on the phone asked about my battery times and the nice lady said they were within the normal range. I guess I'll have to deal. I'm still kinda jealous of those getting 4+ hours on their MBPs!

Will we have the great new batteries too?

Hi, this is a sad story. My MBPro is definitely on HALF of the worktime and DOUBLE on the charge time than my previous MacBook that after 1.5 years worked for 4 hours without problems. My working habits are the same and I get half of fun with the most modern machine on the market. Strange.
My MBPro charges for 5 hours, lasts 1.5 hrs and is able to discharge while sleeping in 36 hrs.
Do you have any idea whether the new batteries for 17" will be available also for the 15"? It's a shame they HAD CONSTRUCTED a great battery but didn't implement it in their premium product.

The battery for the 17" MBP won't fit into the 15"; its very large size is how it achieves its higher capacity. I have no problem getting between four and five hours out of my 15" MBP's battery under the conditions Apple says I should.
Battery charging time is appreciably longer for the unibody machines. The charge rate has been slowed down, probably to limit heating of the battery. It can be a bit of a nuisance, but it's not a malfunction.
The rapid discharge while sleeping is a mysterious problem that has been discussed at some length here and that Apple is investigating. Out of curiosity, what is the rate of discharge during sleep (percentage of charge lost per hour of sleep) for your older MBP?

Well... yes the machines are different in size indeed. A meant there is a totally new attitude to battery technology in the 17" but with a 15" we have to suffer. I sort of would guess I cannot put a 17" part into a 15" case.
